My 1992 mercury topaz shift hard when coming to a stop. recently had transmission replaced. maybe missing transmission shift cable. is there such a part

Unit has shift linkage between throttle and transmission linkage, it has plastic bushings that hold it in place, they will get brittle with time and break, allowing linkage to come off or be out of adjustment. Have whoever rebuilt it have a look at them and replace them. There plastic, cost should be a few dollars.

Transmission
If you are always adding fluid, that means you have a leak somewhere. Put a piece of clean cardboard under suspect areas under car overnight to check for obvious leaks. The one hard leak to find is when the trans cooler in the radiator is leaking internally. Open your radiator cap (only when cool) and see if it looks oily inside. If so, you need to replace your radiator, and I suggest you flush your cooling system at the same time.

1993 Mercury Topaz wont shift into any gears
If the transmission is not very low or completely out of fluid then you have a failed transmission. The first thing to do is check the fluid level. Of course the cable could have come of the shift post at the transmission so that should be checked as well. Always have a pro verify my guess before starting any repairs. This job is about $2000.00 if the transmission is defective.

You could have varnish on the throttle valve in the transmission, causing it to stick open.

I have a 1992 Mercury Topaz that needs to get to over 4000 rpms before shifting gears. It is an automatic transmission
Change your transmission fluid and and get a transmission filter kit that should do the trick

Transmission shifts slow when it is cold
Change the transmission filter and add 2 bottles of Lucas Stop Slip. Finish filling with new DextronIII/Mercon.

Reverse lights dont work in 94 topaz. I replaced bulbs and fuse is good.
look at the top of your transmission near the shift cables and there should be a large bolt-looking fitting with two wires coming out of it and a plug on the end. Disconnect this plug, then place a wire across the iside terminals of the plug coming from the body, not the trans. Check the lights then and if the are on, you have a bad reverse light switch. Hope this helps :)

Where is the fuel pump relay located on a 1992 Mercury topaz
the fuel pump relay is located on the left shock tower in the engine compartment in a black box 6x4x1 inches. there are other relays inside the same box which is actually called the ccrm or constant contorl relay module, there should be a double connector with 20 to 26 wires in it, hard to miss.

1989 Mercury Topaz Transmission problem !!!
overdrive should be activated by a solenoid ..internal and perhaps an external one also.. in 89 the computer was primitive and i dont think controlled shift points..also if engine health is bad or missing or vacuum to any cacuum modulator at trans is damaged or compromised.. these issues could occur...good luck
