Hello there and welcome to fixya
This is a issue that both GMC and Chevrolet has had in the past the problems stems from a faulty controle module that makes the dash go crazy or just simply not work at all
The dealership is responsible for replacing this but you need to bring in the vehical to them and have them do the testing on it ok
hope this helps best regards Mike

I would buy a gauge cluster of Ebay and do a swap. If this doesn't fix it then then follow the cable back to a module. Either the cable of the module you follow it back to is defective.

I hope this helps.

Common problem on the 03-06 Silverado instrument clusters for the fuel gauge to go out. It's usually caused by one of two main problems, either the stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board is going out or the sending unit on the fuel pump is going out. 2003 chevy silverado 1500HD loss of all gauges and after awhile they come back on

There is a known issue with the dash gauges on the 2003 Silverado. Check with your dealer, because there is a service bulletin that allows them to replace the dash assembly as a factory warranty replacement even if you are out of warranty (if you are the original owner).

I have a 03 chevy 1500hd 4x4 and all gauges in the cluster went out, from time to time they will start working again and then fail again.

Is it just the gauges? If so it is probably a bad or loose connection. If Im not mistaken the cluster is connected to the computer via a pig tail. I would look there first and make sure nothing has come loose.

2003 Chevy 1500HD 4x4

the problem is that your instrument cluster has a short circuit and it will need to be replaced you can try a used one but mileage will be off from yours you will have to remove the trim around the cluster then there are 4 screws holding cluster in place
