The TCCM (Tranfer Case Control Module) is located behind the lower left side of the dash.
What do the indicator lights on the 4x4 selector switch show? Are any on, do they blink, do they follow the switch selection? Whit ignition off, turn the selector switch thru all positions many times. See if this makes any difference in the symptoms.
The other part that can cause 4x4 selection problems is the Mode Actuator, it is mounted on the side of the transfer case.
For more information on the 4x4 system, go to www.trailvoy.com, use the search feature to find threads about the 4x4 system.

Why doesn't my 4x4 work

Do you have mechanical-shift four wheel drive,or electronic-shift, 4WD system ? Any lights lit on the dash ?
The electronic-shift, 4WD system consists of the following components:
  • Transfer case (For transfer case repair procedures, refer to Section 308-07B ).
  • 4WD control module (For 4WD control module installation, refer to 4WD control module in this section.)
  • Mode select switch (MSS)
  • Gearmotor encoder assembly
  • Automatic locking hubs (hub locks)
  • Pulse vacuum hub lock (PVH) solenoid and vacuum lines
  • The mechanical-shift four wheel drive (4WD) system consists of the following components:
  • Transfer case (For transfer case repair procedures, refer to Section 308-07B ).
  • Transfer case shift lever
  • Manual locking hubs
  • 4x4 indicators
  • Shift linkage (hub locks)

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 292000 miles. Runs but will not drive in any gear. Selector will go into hear but it wont move. It can be pushed while in neutral. Was told transfer case was bad but even...

Could be either, a transmission problem or transfer case problem.
Someone will probably have to remove the transfer case to find out.
The torque converter, pump, valve body, or various parts in the transmission could have failed. The transfer case could be stuck between 2wd and 4wd or could have a broken gear.

My 2002 2500HD Silverado diesel wont engage the front wheels in 4wd. I jacked the front wheels off the ground and put it in 4wd. The wheels turn and so does the front drive shaft. I found this out when I...

if you had the rear wheels still on the ground in 4WD and it never drove the vehicle off the jacks or stands , you have a problem in the transfer case
in other words the transfer case is not selecting WD

This sounds like the electronic motor on the back of the transfer case has bound itself up and is stuck in between gears, which would cause a no drive situation. you will most likely need the new transfer case motor. hope this helps

Something is wrong with the 4WD. Will engage in neutral to 4WD Lo which means the vaccum is probably working but 4WD Hi will not engage. I have tried resetting the control module as described in the owners...

what you are most likely feeling is in 4lo the transfer case drops the gear ratio and 4hi just locks the front differential in. do you know if the front axle is locking in in 4lo? i suspect you have a vacuum issue to the front actuator and this is why. there is a vacuum switch on top of transfer case that will stick and cause problems and sometimes the vacuum lines will pop off of this switch.check and see if you are getting vacuum to the actuator if not follow lines be sure one is not broken if you are then actuator is bad

My 4x4 is stuck in four wheel low it is shift on the fly and i have already replaced the transfer case motor

Ok here is a long shot but sometimes it will work. Put the 4wd position switch to 4wd Lo, put your transmission in reverse and back up for about 50 yards, stop and put your transmission in neutral, then shift the 4wd to 4wd hi, wait a few seconds and shift the 4wd to 2wd hi, Sometimes the t-case will get stuck and this is how you reset the computer. I have known people that really got their t-cases messed up because they thought that shift on the go meant that they could shift the t-case into 4wd LO while moving but shift on the go is only for 4wd hi the gears will not mesh up fast enough for 4wd LO because the ratio is 1 to 1 . I hope this helps you.

Transfer gear case shift jammed

There are four probable causes when the gear is stuck in one position, and they are precisely explained in this handy diagnostic article that I know will help narrow down the culprit of your difficulty:

Good luck!

1997 Suburban Transfer Case stuck in 4WD Lo

most likely needs an encoder motor. That is the fancy term for the motor that switches the t_case through the gears. The flashing lights indicate a code had been stored and you should have gotten it serviced then before further damage. as long as you dont drive it in 4 wheel you should still be ok
