1993 Ford F150 SuperCab Logo
Anonymous Posted on Sep 11, 2011

I have a 1993 Ford F150 4.9L L6. Replaced the fuel pump. Now it started to idle high then idle low, have to give it gas to stay cranked but it will die anyways. Replaced the fuel filter, pvc value, hoses. Now it seems like it's not getting fuel and won't stay cranked. Idling low like and sounds like it's not getting enough fuel. About to replace the Throttle Position Sensor. Does it seem like that's what's causing the problem or is there something I'm missing? Can't do a code check at auto store cause of the year model. Tried to do a self test KOEO test but the first time it blinked like crazy and couldn't keep up. 2nd test gave a few codes: Carbitator ( it doesn't have one), AC fan clutch (will the AC cause that? Don't think so considering the AC isn't on). #rd try for the KOEO test and it never flashed at all. Help?

Well, the truck runs like it's brand new. Had to put a new computer in it. Works perfect now. Did replace the MAP sensor and had to replace the new fuel pump, turned out to be a bad new pump.

It sounds like the crankshaft/camshaft position sensor. Or as Don said. Fuel pressure regulator. There are some stores that will do an OB1 using a different cable for Fords. Even if you pay a mechanic to do it would be worth the trouble.

Engine stalled out, would not start, pour gas in carb, cranks, keeps running, until idle falls below 12to1500rpm,than stalls out again and will not crank, repeat gas or starting fluid in carb, cranks runs and...

This truck is fuel injected, the problem sounds like a weak fuelpump, it runs when you pour gas into it until that gas runs out, the first thing is to test the fuel preasure, if the pump is weak it may run with gas poured into it but wont idle, also a common problem is the coolant temp sensor and the ground wires to thermostat housing bolt but i wont bet its the pump inside the fuel tank, if you put a fuel gauge on it there should be at least 55-61 psi if its a few pounds lower it can cause problems, you have everything else and it runs with gas poured so its a fuel problem check the preasure, theres a valve up top on the fuel line to connect a fuel gauge to it, start there hope this is helpful.

85 Yota pick-up, Ultra High and Low Idle, now no start

mcdevito75 here, Could be a dirty fuel fliter, remove fuel inlet toarb, crank engine but don"t start, container of 1 pint of gas should pump out from detached carb. fuel inlet, if not replace fuel pump. Very high idle and very low idle could also be a major vacumn leak, check all vacumn hoses, also check intake manifold, spray soapy water around intake manifold try to start, if you see water sucked in or engine now starts, there"s your problem, a vacumn leak.
