Always use care when dealing with an air bag,, remove the neg battery terminal,, then the positive, wait 10 minutes for the system to reset , the trick here is hooking it back up, before you do that ,, check all the connections again , make sure they are all tight and aligned,, if so,, Hook up the Positive cable first ,, then the neg one , the light should have cleared, if by chance it doesn't,, your going to have to go to someplace with a OBD code checker,, Lots of places do this for free, so shop around,, and have them clear the code, if it shows up after that , something in the system is wrong, and you'll need to check that before proceeding
1st when the
airbag light is on the system is disabled, so if u have an accident
they will not work, as to the common cause read below.
When
the airbag light is on it means a fault has occurred in the system
and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the system, the most
common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection
to the steering wheel mounted airbag, this is due to a rotating
ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the
airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is
called th clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact
that turns with the wheel
When the Airbag light (SRS waring) is on or blinks it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the Airbag system. The most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted Airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called the clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the steering wheel while maintaining a mechanical connection to the airbag mounted on the steering wheel, to replace this part you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel, this requires a special steering wheel puller tool and that you disarm the Airbag system before you start the work, to do this disconnect the battery negative cable for 1/2 hour prior.
