2003 ford Taurus DHOC 3.0 There is no spark to the coil pack. Code says Misfire #3 at start 1000 rpm's Pulled plug placed near ground turned key no spark Replaced coil Pack Replaced crank sensor still no spark Engine cranks no spark. checked all wires no spark. Guessing PCM where is it located and how do you check it? What else could cause this and where is the PCM located? Must it be new or can I use one from another car?

Hi.

The PCM is located in the rear right corner of the engine compartment, sticking to the firewall:

The PCM can be replaced with a new or used god-working one. In both cases the PCM must be reprogrammed using a Tech 2 tool that costs about $3000. The operation is done at the garage.

The PCM is unlikely causing misfire on a single cylinder. Check wires going to spark plugs. If the coil is getting no 12V on the ignition side check ignition. It is strange that one coil has no power, the engine usually does not start when that happens because the same coil gives power to spark plugs on different cylinders.

Check if there is a capacitor fixed to the head aside the coil (there should be one). It should be cylindrical and one inch long, held by a single screw and located aside the coil. If there is a capacitor, that must be replaced with the coil. If you have not replaced the capacitor that is probably involved in the problem.

If you have already replaced crankshaft position sensor, check crankshaft position sensor harness in PCM. I uploaded here the bulletin with CKPS to PCM testing:2003 Taurus CKPK PCM testing.

Test the PCM and CKPS connectors. Check again voltage to coils and spark plug cables. I understood that spark plug cable nr.3 has no spark from coil. Check DC in from ignition to coil.

Cylinder # 3 has a misfire...#1) Defective coil on plug or the spark plug itself...#2) Contaminated fuel injector...See drawings below...The coil pack is the smaller of the two and sits to the rear of engine it is the most probable cause...Although the spark plug or the ignition wire (connection between plug and coil pack) could be at fault...so, before you invest in a new coil pack...Remove from both ends the wire from #3 and switch it with #2...if the fault code changes to p0302 that wire is bad...next Install a new set of plugs....Fault still present? replace the coil pack.....Unless recently changed new plugs and wires are a plus even if fault remains...saailer

Misfire cylinder # 3 1996 ford explorer 4.0 Litre

Fire it up at night in the dark and look for arcing. It may be arcing throught he plug wire, it may be finding an carbon path to ground on the plug exterior, or on the coil pack.

Also- check the wire terminal connections for corrosion and make sure they snap into place. on plug and on coil pack.

2000 ford taurus jerks at driving speeds, and stalls when i come to a stop can anyone give suggestions

If you run the OBD II codes,it'll give you an idea. I would suspect the usual offenders......old spark plugs, wiring,or coil pack problem.
An EGR can cause jerking and dying, but so can a vacuum leak, usually accompanied by rough idle before the engine dies.
I just did my sister-in-law's plugs, wiring, and coil pack in THAT order, because the code only showed `MISFIRE,cyl. #2.'
Even though the plugs and wiring were pretty worn,it turned out the coil pack had gone bad.
Also, how long since you replaced your fuel filter? don-ohio (:^)

I changed my spark plug wires on 2003 explorer 4.0 litres. First time I didn't follow the order in which they supposed to be connected to the coil, and it was missing a lot and rpm won't go over...

does it still have the engine misfire? did you check for fire out of the coil? the coil packs on these trucks are common to fail and cause the problem you have described. is the check engine light on? if so you may have another problem oter than misfire, need to have codes pulled.

You got a MIL Lamp on, and a code

Why are you not diagnosing that code, for issues

A Misfire First 1000 Rev, should also have cylinder codes
