The rear brakes last a long time since 80% of braking is on the front wheels. This helps keep the car in a straight line in hard braking where the front wheel lock up. The rear wheels keep rolling to keep the car in a straight line much like a fin on a rocket keep its path straight through the air. If you have never changed the rear brakes then it is time to check it. The squeak is caused by a device mounted is such a way so that it touches the brake disk when the pad wears to a certain point. Letting you know it is time for a new pad.
either the brakes need cleaned or replaced or the wheel beraring depending on when it squeaks it could just be condensation if it squeaks first thing in the morning or after sitting all day at work then it is condensation but if not then have the brakes checked
Getting the levers loose is a start but the shoes may have gotten hot and "glazed". Have him replace the shoes, use a good quality name brand and not the cheapest you can find shoes, and it should be OK.
I have had MB vehicles for 10 years now and the brakes ALWAYS squeak. I feel like any time after 10k miles, expect it. I live in west LA and there are hundreds of MBs here. They all squeak. Sad but true.
