recheck how you are routing the belt and how much tension you are putting on it. sounds like way to much tension on the drive pulley and that's wearing out the bearing. perhaps post the engine size that you have an i will locate the diagram for the belt routing.
What I do to check the belt is to look at the belt and see if it has cracks on the inside. The small ribs or grooves in the belt will have small cracks when the belt needs replaced.
Note the drive belt routing, usually there is a sticker under the hood with the routing. using the right socket and a breaker bar, rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve tension. remove belt and slowly release breaker bar tesnsion. for V8, Install on all pulleys except generator, loosen tension and install on generator. for 4.2L install belt over all pulleys except tensioner, relieve tension and install over tensioner, slowly release breaker bar tension.
not familiar with trailblazer but looking at the belt, the idler pulley will be all by itself, not driving anything. it just guide the belt. why do you want to know.
