SOURCE: my car just failed smog emissions test, had high

i would put a good tank of gas in the system. like 93 super.drive the car for about 1 week or at least 100 miles. i would also go to a good auto parts store.u should be able to buy a bottle of engine cleaner to pass the smog test.also when u bring the car in for the inspection.take it for a rideand get it nice and warmed up.

SOURCE: evaporative emission control system

The evap system allows for gas vapors to be recirculated through the system and burned by the engine, rather than vented into the atmosphere.

It means that the Gas cap is bad,the evap canister is clogged, you have a bad hose,or a sensor is bad.Replace the gas cap first,This is a common problem.

SOURCE: My 2007 Chrysler Sebring will

This depends on the problem , like a bad gas cap is not covered but so what a cap is cheap, take it to dealer and let them fix it for free or very cheap. most of the time its a valve, purge valve or vent valve, these are covered, take it before you hit 80,000. good luck.

I have two codes come up when checking why my check engine light is on. P0447 and P0420. Any info on what these mean and what it takes to fix so I can pass my smog test??

press the helpful button
Definition of P0420 is catalyst below threshold. This is indicative of (among other things) a converter that is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). Catalytic converters are not normally a "wear" type item, that is they are not deisgned to wear out and need replacement. If they have failed, it is likely due to something else that caused it to fail.

P0447 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Open. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an open within the circuit that controls the vent valve or solenoid for evaporative emission systems vapor.

I have a 2000 mazda millenia s the battery keeps

you have 2 separate issues. one is a parasitic draw on the battery from an electrical component. not passing smog is an emissions related concern involving egr, oxygen sensors, catalytic converters, evaporative systems, and engine overall performance.

Pass smog test

change your oil and oil filter. Add a bottle of octane boost to the fuel tank then top off with fuel. Drive vehicle for about twenty minutes then have emissions tested. Unless you have a bad catalytic converter, you should pass emissions.

CEL P0431 but passed smog emissions in CA - how can I pass emissions if the CAT is damaged? Could it be another issue?

Maybe not your answer, but it is related: Before going to have your car smogged, check your gas cap. Check the condition of the gasket, or o-ring, inside the gas cap. If is already drying out, full of cracks, get a new one. It will not pass the visual inspection. The smog technician, salesman, will try to sell you a new one for $15 when you could get it for $8 at your local auto-parts store. The technician will tell you that if you do not get it right there and then, he will have to fail your car on the visual test and you will have to comeback to have your car re-smogged again.
The cap might still be doing an OK job of sealing the tank, but it won't pass the Visual, especially if the tech wants to sell you a cap. You can tell if the cap is doing its job if you hear a hissing sound whenever you open the gas cap after running the engine fro a while. If it is not providing a good seal, then you might get a check engine light with a code about a failure in the evaporative system.
Just a little thing to check before you go and put yourself at the mercy of the smog tech.
For $15 you could get a locking gas cap, which might be a necessity now with gasoline prices being what they are, now.

My 2007 Chevy Avalanche failed the emission test with the code of P0455 what is the problem?

It is probably the evap vent valve. A new vent solenoid valve has been redesigned to correct the problem you are having. I would recommend purchasing the dealer component.
I hope this helps.
