When I try to put gas in the car the pump shuts off. It will take a little gas but it takes forever becarse the pump keeps shuting off. This my daughters car. I have taken it to a mercedes mechanic he says it can't be fixed. What should I do????
1-The tank needs to be removed and the evap valve assembly on the
top of the tank needs to be replaced.
2-Your motor is thermally protected. This means when it does get hot it will shut off instead of burning up.
How old is your pump or motor? If your answer is not very old (1 year or less)
Then did you have it replaced with a larger H.P. unit, because that may be your problem
If you have had the same pump motor for years without problems then it's probably
time to replace it (average life span 6-15 years) depending on maintenance and that it was a quality unit to begin with.
The thing to remember is if you have a 1 H.P. pump motor and you
replace it with a 1.5 or even a 2 H.P. you must check that your wiring
will be sufficient.
As long as your moving water well then be less concerned with plumbing.

Its quite difficult as the mechanic said but if any proper mecnanic can disassemble the lower unit of the pump from the car it could be done easily.
thanks.
pls rate the solution.
One thing springs to mind... do you have your own private gas pump. there is a pipe inside the nozzle of that. basically it's an automatic shut off when gas pressure reverses flow.
I'm more inclined to suspect the gas pump then the car.

It usually has to do with the angle or how far you are putting the pump in. You may just have to work around to figure out what will work right for you. Your first thing is to try and fill it slower. If you need further assistance let me know. If you have a moment I would greatly appreciate if you could accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thanks,

Two things come to mind.
The vent pipe along side the filler neck is blocked.
One of the antisyphon baffles in the filler neck are damaged, if the filler nozzle from the fuel pump gets blocked whilst you are filling up as you know the pump will cut off, it's to stop you getting a blow back and getting fuel everywhere.
I can't believe it cannot be fixed, I would get a second opinion.

I have tried pulling the nozzle out a little it does not work. Beleve me the mechanic I took it to tried every thing. He says it cannot bre fixed!!!
The mechanic said thas the vent pipe does not run along sine the filler pipe it is inside. He has droped the gas tank and there is nothing blocking the pipe.
I have tried all that and the mechanic has tried it too. Nothing that simple seems to work
It is not the fuel pump. It's when We go to the gas station to git gas the gas and the station pump shuts off
