1998 marquis light flickering

Usually means that headlights are loose (most obvious/cheapest fix) but could be intermittent short where headlight wire is shorting to chassis ground (Visual and multimeter to find short). It could also be telling you that the alternator maybe going bad.

There's a l.c.m located by the gas pedal, just above it over the plastic cover.when this happens, slightly tap the module. If light come on then you need a new l.c.m (lighting control module)...very common concern eith this vehicle, unfortunately not cheap

Sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator. Or the alternator is going out.

2000 Mercury Grand marquis courtesy lights flicker, and sometimes come on by itself.

check all the door switches they look like small pins near the bottom of the door opening they go on when the door is opened and, turn on the courtesy lights. one is probably loose or, broken.
