Under the dash, between the seat and the brake pedal is a switch. When the brake is released, it presses against the switch to turn off the brake lights. When the switch does not line up with or fails to connect with the pedal, the lights stay on until your battery dies, and it will.

Reach under the dash, check the switch and move it if it does not line up with the pedal. If it does line up but does not touch the pedal, twist the end of it until it does. The lights should go off.

My brake lights wont turn off on my 06 rio. What do i do?

it sounds like your brake light switch is stuck on, you will find it somewhere behind your brake pedal, try spraying a little WD 40 on it,it maybe the spring loaded type so just pull the end of it out & push it in & out a few times,if the spring is broken the switch will have to be replaced....hope this helps....cheers

As cadman mention to check the fuse, and if there ok check your brake light switch along the brake peddle arm. Before you doany of that, turn your hazard light on to make sure that all your light's are not burnt out. Good luck
