I have a 2006 Kia Optima, it is running rough, sometimes when I stop it will die, if it doesn't die it idles really rough, and when I go to take off in it, it is very sluggish. My son thinks it need a fuel filter, but I am not sure, I thought the fuel filter for the 2006 Optima LX were lifetime filters. Can you advise me? Sue

change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure

It can be issue with low fuel pressure,the fuel pump is getting old both needs to be checked.Also get the IAC valve checked.

Replace your hose going from intake to brake booster ( vacuum leak) check all other hoses also. Clean the throttle body. And a tune up probably wont hurt either.

Have you not had the codes read?
Is it not under warranty?

I would be looking at the radiator fans themselves, especially if the fans are open
framed motors. I had the same problem with an intermittent fan on a PT cruiser,
If your A/C doesn't seem to be working right at stop lights then the fans are
most likely not operating correctly since they assist the condensing coil when idling.
Second thing I would suspect is a thermostat which is stuck closed. (This will cause overheat).

When is the last time you had a complete tune up? What did you do to correct the misfire the first time it happened?

ROUGH IDLING CAN BE CAUSED BY VACUUM LEAKS.LIKE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET.OR VACUUM LEAKS FROM HOSES.LOW COMPRESSION CYLINDERS WITH BAD VALVES.LEAKING EGR VALVE GASKET.DIRTY CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS WILL CAUSE ROUGH IDLING.

If you have a rough vibration at idle when in D and not when in P, it may be due to the motor mounts. Even one that has gone bad will cause a vibration at idle when in Drive. I was able to isolate the problem by disconnecting the transmission mount under the airbox and suspending the transmission while i started the engine and put it in Drive. When i did that the vibration went away.
When i reinstalled the mount it came back. My problem is the transmission motor mount under the airbox.

Is the car flashing any codes. I would look for fuel issues possibly fuel filter, injectors etc. Because these items are easier to check. Otherwise it sounds as if the timing is off on the car. If the Hydraulic tensioner is not replaced this could cause the belt to jump teeth as well. PRETTY SURE YOUR TIMING IS STILL OFF
