Tip & How-To about Chevrolet Corvette

Needing a new key without the code

Anyone owning a vehicle that is 15 years or older that has a chip in the key had better make sure you have a spare. GM and most other car companies erase the chip code from their computers after the 15 year period is up and it can run into hundreds of dollars if you need a new key.

Does anyone know how to rewire a 98 Toyota Avalon cause no one wants to help me bypass the security and I been without a vehicle going on a month

Probably because no one thinks it can be done. I don't think it can be done. You have to convince the engine computer it is getting the right signal from the anti-theft module before it will allow the car to start. The GM system runs off resistor chips in the key. You can "trick" the system to recognize any key if you wire in a "resistor pack" with the correct sized resistance matching the old correct key's resistance reading. See, you just wire in between the key lock cylinder, will be a wire going to the anti theft module (which then signals the computer all is okay to start the engine) -on a GM vehicle you wire in a resistor pack in the wire to the antitheft module. There are approximately 15-20 different resistance readings in those key chips. Maybe Toyota uses a similar- google it!

got 2002 grand prix driving just died i replaced fuel filter fuel pump cleaned all sencers still wont sty running what can i do

Did you check to see if it has spark at the plug wires ? Possible crankshaft position sensor ! Are the fuel injectors being commanded on by the PCM ? Did you check for fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge ? Just because you hear fuel pump running does not mean fuel is getting to the injectors ! Did you have the engine sensors data checked with a scan tool ? Mass air flow sensor !

Lost key with fob. Spare starts it then it shuts off? Went to get spare programmed and they said they can't. Why won't my spare work

The spare key does not have the chip in it to run the vehicle. You should be able to get a new key if you can prove ownership of the vehicle

How to bypass the security system on a 1992 Buick park avenue

I recall some previous posts here about that on similar year gm vehicles. There are many youtube videos about bypasses and fixes. The easiest and cheapest is to make a resistor pack from radio shack, or similar, now they are bankrupt. What you do is find the resistance value of the chip in your key (there are like 15 different values), then make up a resistor pack that equals that and install it in the steering column, in the appropriate wires, and then you can use a regular key in the ignition. I'm sure this is not the only option. A company called newrockies was making a bypass module for about $200, that totally bypassed the Theft Deterrent Module, the heart of the (pricey) GM theft deterrent system. Just google, or do a little research online, you will find a lot.
