Tips to check for if your car does not start.

These are only a general check point which is quick check up for any car, make or medel.

There can be so many issues for a car from starting.
1. Start from the fuel, the fuel filter, the fuel pump, the fuel injectors, check all of them for good flow and pressure.
The fuel can be bad, can contain dirt , impurities, water or even be spurious.
The fuel filter is one that must be changed on schedule specially if the source of fuel is bad in a place or country.
The fuel pump is now important because of the importance of fuel effficiency. the main fuel pump ,whether electric or mechanical is also to be checked.The carbuerator is another important suspect in the older version, the build up of dirt,clogging in ports and jets are common factors.
the injectors, the glow plugs are also important for a good clean start, to be changed in the periodic schedule.

2. The second part is to check the electrics, the plugs, the wires, the distribution, the HT coils, the electronics.... the final verdict you must get a good spark.
The plugs, wires, distribution cups must be good or changed in periodic mileage. the HT coils must deliver good intensity sparks and the ingnition impulse whether from a sensor to an electronic unit to have solid state firing of the coil or the conventional platinum point contacts to the coils.
As sais earlier a good intensity spark with the correct gap setting.

finally the timing should be right, the valves and cylinders in good shape, the battery and starter is good and cranking well.. C

The solution is to take a logical troubleshooting approach and not just throw parts at the issue hoping to get lucky. Here are some hints:
1) Measure the battery voltage. Then measure it again while trying to start the engine. If the voltage drops below 10 volts while trying to start the battery is discharged or bad. Charge it and then have it load tested at any auto store -- test is generally free.

2) If the battery checks ok, disconnect the large battery cables and clean the terminal ends and battery terminals thoroughly. That means both the battery end and the engine end. Reinstall the cables and tighten them securely. If you use wing nuts on the battery posts, replace them with stainless hex nuts and a start washer for better connections.

3) If the issue is not resolved at this point, Use jumper cables to jump directly to the starter. Black cable goes from battery NEG to engine block (unpainted bolt or bracket). Red cable goes from battery POS and touched to the large post on the starter solenoid that feeds the starter. If it still doesn't spin, you have a bad starter. If it does spin, then the solenoid is suspect.

The ignition switch, neutral start switch and the start switch wiring can also play into this but I doubt that's the issue. The solenoid can be verified by using a screwdriver to jump the small terminal to the large terminal to which the POS battery cable is connected. If doing that spins the engine, the solenoid is good and the wiring/switches are suspect.

my 1990 g20 van will not start , new injectors,fuel regulator,gets fuel has spark, turns over fine , what should i check ?

Is it sparking when and where it should? Checking timing. # 1 on compression stroke, Ignition rotor should be pointing at tab under distributor cap for wire that goes to # 1 cylinder. Line up timing marks on pulley as labeled or even at TDC for quick reference. With # 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke, rotor tab should be pointed at plug tab under cap, that goes to # 1.

I have an Audi A4 1.9TDi 2004. I was driving a distance of 25km and the car temp gauge went up twice on the journey and I got message on the dash COOLANT with a pic of a thermometer. I then drove 80km without any issue. Then on next journey of 120Km the temp issue happened 4 times. The temp stays constant at 90 on the gauge but then at a random time just starts climbing very fast and the warning appears on the dash. If I switch off the vehicle and freewheel with car off for a short distance then switch back on again the temp starts to drop quickly back to the 90 mark.

Make sure you uhave a good mixture of antifreeze it make the boiling point higher as well as the freeze point lower. Check the fans let it idle turn on the ac and wait and watch.If it gets hot and No fan comes on start there / thermastat The t-start should be open around 160-180 degrees you should notice it get to the threshhold then drop 10 degrees / heads check for water in the oil oil in the water .See if you can get a temp gun if every thing else checks good before you get into the wiring.
