Tip & How-To about Ford F-350

Changing Powerstroke injectors

A key step most DIY'ers forget when changing the injectors is to remove the UVC (under valve cover) oil drain plugs. These plugs drain the excess oil from the oil passage so it doesn't leak into the cylinder and cause hydro lock (clyinders full of fluid) and damage pistons/rods. To do this you remove the valve covers and then the gasket as well as the injector harnesses. The 2 drain plugs are located directly underneath the 2 wiring harnesses (front and rear). This requires an allen wrench (4.5mm I believe) and do not torq when tightning). You must remove both to allow maximum oil drainage.

diagram for changing the oil

you probably won't need a diagram. If you know where the oil pan is. Under the car. There is the oil pan and it has a plug. Put an oil change container under it and remove the plug with a wrench. Let the oil drain out. Replace the plug. You should replace the oil filter too with each oil change. Then after replacing the plug and installing a new oil filter. Put in 4 quarts of oil into the engine by removing the oil cap on top of the valve covers. And your done. check the oil after running the car a while to see if it does not need more oil. Do NOT OVERFILL!! That can ruin the gaskets and an oil leak can occur. I hope this helps you. You can go to autozone .com if you need more info. Just click on the DIY and repair guide.

Put oil on the new filter seal and screw the new filter on as snug as you can by hand.. Put the oill pand plug back in and snug it down. Don't forget the gasket washer under the plug. Slide the pan of old oil out carefully and set it where you won't step in it. Open the hood and on one of the valve covers ia a cap about 3" in diameter. Remove the cap and look inside. If yo can see the rocker arms that is it. Put 4 quarts of new oil in it, then start it. Look underneath for any leaks. Turn the engine off and ck the oil level with the dipstick. If it is a quart low, add the fith quart. If on the full line. Add no more. Only run the engine long enough to fill the oil filter . It should only take 10 seconds. If this is a v8, it should need the fiftj quart. Put the valve cover cap back on , Put he dipsatick back in, Close the hood, and deny forgetting about the pan of oil as you step in it as you move back proud of your first oil change.
