Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks

How to get the right answer to your question.

Ask the right question. Be specific on the make, model, year and other identification of your vehicle. Then tell us the problem you have with it. Then tell us what information are you looking for. If you do it this way, it is much easier for people to answer your question. If you type a one liner, people have to guess what you mean and sometimes gives you the wrong answer. Good luck, Have a nice day.

the serial # 243366 when was it mfg.

I can not tell you, because you have not listed the year, make and model of your vehicle. That said, if you look on the back of both the driver's door and more likely the driver's door opening, you will find a label. This label contains the VIN [vehicle identification number] AND the year and month that the vehicle was manufactured.

I have a rental, there is no owner's manual in the vehicle. I don't know what the light on the dash that looks like a (!) means. It is a newer model Ford Fusion.

First look at the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through the lower left (driver's side) of the windshield. The 8th digit in the VIN will tell you the model year of the vehicle.

Newer Model VIN year codes:
5 = 2005
6 = 2006
7 = 2007
8 = 2008
9 = 2009
A = 2010
B = 2011
C = 2012

You can download a FREE PDF version of the owner's manual at the Ford Web Site.

My KIA Rio 2003 alternator driving belt broke and got lost at night. I have no identification details for it. I want to buy an new replacement locally may I have the part number? Does 4PK865 WORK FOR ME?

Go to AutoZone or Napa Auto Parts with the Make Model Year of your car and the ENGINE size. They will ask you with our without AC? With or without Power Steering? Standard or Automatic transmission? Then they will tell you exactly what belt Alternator you need. Everything is computerized and they will even show you the on screen picture if you ask.

This is what I can gather about your belt:

Power steering and air-conditioning;
35.5 in. effective L, 0.54 in. top W, 4 ribs;

Water pump and alternator there is 1 size and appears to be a "Micro V-belt vs a serpentine belt. i.e 2003 Kia Rio, sub models: RX-V, Base and Cinco

the throttle cable is frayed and need replaced. where do I buy the replacement part?

It is very unlikely that this is an aftermarket part, go to the nearest automotive dealership that services your type of vehicle. Be prepared to provide the parts counter personnel the make and model of your vehicle and the engine size as well.
