2001 toyota 4runner< engine light on, code
You can get this code if you don't tighten the gas cap all the way, or the gas cap is bad. I will put all the detail for the code below and what I would do to fix the problem...
NOTE: Do not top off your tank either. This could cause the 'overfill check valve' to fail, and could cause this code.
Definition of P0441: Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect
Purge Flow
Detection logic:
DTCs P0441 and P0446 are recorded by the ECM when evaporative emissions leak from the emissions components
or when there is a malfunction in either the VSV for EVAP, the VSV for
pressure switching valve, or in the vapor pressure sensor itself.
detection cause: Pressure in charcoal canister and fuel tank does not drop or
drop in pressure increased beyond the specified limit during
purge control (2 trip detection logic)
What I would do:
1. Replace fuel cap and reset computer. If code returns, then proceed to next
The next steps require a diagram, so the purchase of service manual to locate the components is very helpful
2. Check for vacuum leaks in ALL emission hoses
3. Check VSV valve operation (there are three; they are ~$75 new from dealer, and sometimes fail)
4. Check for cracks or leaks around or in the charcoal canister (usually requires a smoke machine)
5. check for voltage to VSV's
6. Last resort: take it to the dealer and have them run a diagnosis. This should run between $50-$100.
Good luck!

Heater is not working
Does the fan work and just blow out cold air? Is the car overheating? Have you checked all your fuses?
My truck skips & rumbles when I press the gas
Is it throwing a code (is the check engine light on??) This is a hard one to diagnos without hearing and feeling the problem.
You might have some critical mechanical issues. If you care about your truck, I recommend not driving, or even starting the engine. Have it towed to a good, honest mechanic (dealer maybe??) and have them diagnose the problem. Sorry to say, but the worst case problem is not pretty.
Then again, it could just be pinging from bad gas...of which I would add two bottles of octane booster and some water-remover to the gas tank.
The 4 wd on my '01 4Runner won't engage.
Have you check all your fuses??
Try this: Put the car in low gear, engage the 4 wheel drive, wait a few seconds (the 4wd indicator lights should be flashing) then accelerate to about 3500 rpm and let off the gas pedal all the way. You should here a 'clunk' when it engages.
How do you disconnect the daylight, lights?
This is hard to explain without pics, but I will give it a shot: Just under the the steering wheel is the DRL (daytime running lamps) with a big white connector inserted into the backside of it. This connector has many wires. You need to locate the black/yellow wire. Cut the wire, and insert a swtich in between the two cut ends to enable/disable the DRL.
This link has a great how-to instructionProcedure:
Cut the Pin 12 Black/Yellow Stripe wire to disable the DRL "circuit"
operation. A switch can be installed inline between the two separate
Black/Yellow Stripe wires for manual DRL operation if desired.
I just did mine over Christmas and it works with no problems.
My 4runner is getting bad gas mileage and won't
It could be a number of things. My recommendations are as follows:
-bad gas (run some bottles of lucas and injector cleaner thru)
-change air filter
-change fuel filter
-clean MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner ONLY
-check MAF sensor voltage readings as per service manual
-Re-calibrate throttle position sensor. They tend to need this around 120-150k miles
-check vacuum level
-check cylinder compression
-Depending on mileage and if there are any codes, replace O2 sensors with Denso only sensors
-Not likely, but the cat could be restricted too
My '01 was doing the exact same thing, and it turned out to be the MAF was dirty- and the fix took about 2minutes and ran me ~$5 for a can of MAF cleaner.
Hope this helps,
C
2001 toyota 4 runner/ starter will not disengage after starting
He's right I would check Neutral safety switch first. Make sure B+ only comes out of one end of it when pedal is released. Only time B+ must be out of both sides of this is when pedal is depressed. Ignition switch can't go to starter directly B+ starts at ign switch to neutral safety to solenoid on starter.
Most neutral safety switches can be adjusted.
When i am sitting still idling in drive there is a
That could be two seperate problems. Check the cat converter for the rattle. If OK. May be tourq converter in transmission. Trying to pull while braking may have to do with IAC motor, Dependes on Year Make Modle ect, Need more info on car
4 wheel drive won't disengage.
i would get a chilton manual it will tell you where it is located, i just put on my truck and it was 40. dollars and about 1 hour of my time.
