Lost power, engine light came on

A code checker tool will tell you some, can be checked without having to move the truck. Sounds like an unhappy computer.

1997 toyota tacoma. No brake lights

First check the break light bulbs if they are good, it is most likely the break light switch locaoed on the break pedal arm its easy to change, and not costly at all, if this does not do it you may have a slort in your break wires this can be hard to trsck down but may be as easy as puting a piece of tape on a bare wire to fix.

Very poor wiring in a 97 tacoma. bare wires. Used

has your truck sat for very long with out being driven-this sounds to me like you have had a mouse chewing wires and or nesting in your head liner-that is why dome fuse keeps blowing-pull your headliner down and check for shorted wires-Replacing fuses will not fix the problem Cheers Denny

I have a 98 toyota tacoma sr5 4 cylinder..i have

You are using the "shotgun" method of diagnosis-shooting parts at it until it's fixed.I refused to do this as a dealer tech, which is why I don't fix cars for a living any more.(In the auto dealer warranty repair world, you are paid for replacing parts, not for diagnosis time.) However, since you have replaced the most expensive pieces already, why not round it up with a neutral safety switch(or clutch pedal switch-you didn't specify an auto or manual trans)? I had many automatic trans vehicles that would not start in park, but would in neutral. Some "PRNDL" switches are adjustable, not sure about yours. If you do have an auto trans, try cranking the starter while pushing/pulling the shifter. If this makes the trouble come and go,you are probably on the right track.

Fuel filter

56305a0a-b88f-42c6-bb08-dd7440961ccc.jpgPicture really doesn't really explain but the inline fuel filter is located on the left (passenger) side of the engine block. The best I can explain it is locate the starter look above but towards the front of the vehicle....Above and ahead of the starter. Hope this helps....

1997 tacoma 2.7 cam sensor problem replaced it but still code p0340 so tryed crank sensor

There may be more than one issue. Here's some possibilities: 1. The new sensor you bought is defective. I have run across this problem a few times. Most notably was a mass air sensor for a Maxima that the first 3 NEW sensors were defective right out of the box. 2.Look for oil in the sensors plug socket and the pigtail connector. If oil is present, spray out both the socket and pigtail with brake cleaner. (Be sure to wear safety glasses when doing this)3. The timing belt tensioner is losing/has lost the ability to keep tension on the timing belt and it's out of time. 4. There's a break or a sort in the wiring. You'll need a schematic and a mutlmeter to check for continuity. (Least likely) 5. The computer is failing or has failed.
