Whenever I am cruising and releases the gas pedal to slow down, my Toyota Rav 4 suddenly drags or slows down in a rough manner just like an engine brake instead of smoothly slowing down.

Check that the brakes are not binding . On a level road with the hand brake off and out of gear the car should be able to be pushed forward and back with out any signs of binding.

Why would my 1997 RAV4 A/C have lost power when my windshield leaked on the passenger side of my car?

Could be a coincidence. Just try to trace back the electrical wires and see where one is bad, or perhaps even has a shortage, causing the fuse to blow. Impossible to do a diagnose without being under the hood myself.

How to troubleshoot alternator

The best way I have found to check the alternator is to start the engine then disconnect the battery, If the car stops running there is a strong possibility that your alternator isn't charging. You can then take the alternator off and take it to the parts store and have it checked which is something most places will do for free.

Timing belt

get a different place to check the on-board diagnostic (ODB) codes to eliminate emission component possibilities, which might be free at some auto stores or friendly repair shops or just get a cheap emission inspection just to get the test results; likely the timing is not set right, rather than EGR malfunction coincidence; if the timing belt is off it's correct setting, running higher octane in the gas tank will either make it much better or much worse until it returns to normal fuel.

Cleaning EGR valve

Yes, you can clean it, although getting any interfering carbon completely out is difficult. to ck it without reinstallreinstall, use a vacuum pump. You should have one anyway to check the vacuum pot and ease of valve function.- Good Luck- Ned

EGR valve cleaning

You could try & clean it, but won't do much Replace it You can not leave it off,you will have a hole with exhaust coming out & an open intake manifold You can put it back on & not have any wires or hoses going to it, so it fails to work.
