2001 corolla run for second then shuts off not fuel tried starter fluid

Does it sound like it wants to start while cranking then dies when key released? This was a common problem with early ignition sysems where Ignition external ballast resister failed,( small ceramic block thing beside coil). Fuel pump failer is another maybe, test by running fuel hose after pump into 2litre container, While cranking this should half full in 30sec. Be Very carefull doing this. Disconnect ignition coils to prevent any sparking.

Please check whether there is power on incoming point on wiper switch. Now on the switch & check the out point of the switch. If ok check the wire leading to the wiper by conecting a seperate wire outside from switch to wiper motor..Finally check by direct connection from battery to motor. You should check the relavent fuse 1st thing before all these tests.

How can I identify spark plug coil failure without expensive diagnosis ?

Hi, try reving the engine in nutural, do this in dark garage, you might see a spark leaking from HT leads or distributor cap, Check each lead with a ohm meter, resistance should not exceed more than 8000ohm per foot of lead. If in dought replace as a set. To check for a vacuum leak, Allow engine to idle, spray a small amount of engine start from a can, around inlet manifold, and any vacuum pipes etc. Any increase in revs would indercate a vacuum leak. good luck Geoff

2001 Toyota Corolla, Burning Oil rapidly

Take your vehicle back to your mechanic, and have him perform a DRY, then a WET compression test. Please provide both readings back to me. In the meantime, ask him what it would cost you to him replace the piston rings. This is your problem. The 2 tests will simply verify me thinking.

Stalls when driving

I am having the same issue with my sister 2001 corolla. I pinpoint it down to the EFI and/or Engine Main relay. After you drive it for 30 minutes it just shuts off. Try disconnecting the EFI fuse (15 A) for 30 seconds. This will reset the ECU which is going into Limp mode due to relay malfunction. Let me know if it works, i am going to change the relays on my sister's car tomorrow and recheck.

2001 Corolla water pump several replacements

Call your dealer & give them your VIN number. I believe your water pump is defective & Toyota dealer will fix it for free. Bring in your receipts and see if you can recoup your costs on the other water pumps. Make sure you register for car for other recall information with the dealership. According to the website: "Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 2.77 million vehicles around the world for a water pump problem and a steering shaft defect that may result in faulty steering - the latest in a spate of quality woes for Japan's top automaker." Of those vehicles, some 620,000 spanning five hybrid models, including the Prius, have a defective water pump in addition to the steering shaft defect. Those vehicles were produced from 2001 to 2010 in Japan, and from 2003 to 2011 overseas. Another 10,000 vehicles with only a pump problem are also being recalled."

No spark at spark plugs

Usually when there is no spark going to the spark plugs that is a sign that the Electronic Control Module (ECM) needs replacing. The ECM controls all of your computerized engine functions including spark. If it is a coil then only the spark plug/s connected to that coil pack would be effected so check to make sure you don't have spark on all cylinders first. But before I would replace the ECM I would see if you could either tow the car to a discount auto parts store that offers a FREE code reader report. They will hook the reader up to your car and tell you what part needs replacing or purchase a code reader or have someone go to where the car is and plug it in and read it. Good luck.
