I have a toyota estima 2000 that has trouble going into overdrive I have try everything even sent it to the shop it still has trouble going into overdrive we told to turn it off and start it up and tr

Please read the question, it has nothing to do with the car not starting... The questions is WHY won't the trans shift into overdrive ) It's an intermittent problem and probably a sticky OD solenoid in the trans or maybe temp sensor in cooling system etc. But my point here is please read the question and answer accordingly instead of going off on a tangent and wasting ppls time!

CAUSE OF OVERHEATING 2003 TOYOTA

For many of the 90's and 2000's Toyota various models - Camry, Tacoma, 4 Runners, Corolla, and some other models it is usually caused by temperature sensitive fan switch on the radiator not operating. Electric fan on the radiator should operate when temp above 200 degrees. Less often the control relay 90987-03003 is defective. Check if bubbling in the radiator smells like exhaust. That would indicate a blown head gasket. A jumper wire from your marker light positive to the lower contact in the fan control relay socket will operate your fan when parking lights are on. The larger vehicles with more powerful radiator fans will need a hefty jumper from a headlight positive to avoid overheating the lighting wiring. Make sure the engine is off and warmed up to check the radiator core with your hand to see if it is getting circulation. If it is all cold the thermostat might be stuck.

Can a subaru engine fit in a toyota estima? has anybody tried it and got successful? i want to change my 2.2 turbo diesel engine to a 2 litre twin turbo subaru engine

No. engine mounts, electrics, ecu, axels and a whole lot of other stuff would need to be changed and cut and welded.even after that you could have a host of other difficulties. not an easy task for even the experienced engineer.

I have a 97 previa the transmission is not engaging at all

no one any web can answer that. (GOD like , huh?) but the car , IIRC has a TCM operated transmission why not get the TCM scan codes. the FSM tells you how to do that. is the transmission ground strap missing or gone or bad? if yes, the TCM is now useless. fix the ground first or add one. the correct question is answered in the FSM. A./T are complex and only using the FSM will you get correct answers 1997 can be a transistion year. IN USA< why not state country, so we can stop the wrong answsers..... the 1997 car many have the TCM integrated into the PCM in fact the word PCM means just that. and any USA scan tool on your USA car willl scan and you will see things like P07xx , tranny codes if the TCM is seperate (too lazy now to look at alldata.com) the Old TCM on all cars (most) you place jumper wire and the silly thing blinks out DTC 2 digit fail codes. once this far and no errors. the FSM says. do the stall test. yours fails. 100% (and my ground check) then you do the pump pressure tests.. also some TCM you can put the TCM in to manual mode. and shift car by hand, at the shifter. that too is in the FSM. for most cars. lots of on car tests.

I have a 1997 toyota previa and when driving i can sometimes smell petrol i have recently changed n/s front caliper put pads on both front wheels anybody help please???

Hi Paul, I cannot think of anything which would have interfered with the fuel line while fitting the caliper or pads. The fuel filter is fitted in the engine compartment against the firewall fairly low down. You may like to check and possibly replace it as sometimes the connections do leak. The other areas of concern are the seals fitted to the top and bottom of each injector, the feed connection into the fuel rail, and the return pipe to the tank. Make an inspection of all flexible pipes and joints, taking special note of all banjo bolt connections, making sure that all gasket washers are sealing correctly all the way to the tank. Regards John

When braking steering pulls to the right

;Check front tire pressure. It could be as simple as dirty brake pads or shoes. Otherwise you could look at the brake proportioning valve (responsible for sending equal amount of fluid pressure to both sides).I hope this helps!

Where is the flasher on a 1994 toyota previa

The flasher is bolted to the firewall behind the right side of the instrument panel and you can't get to it from underneath the instrument panel. You will have to remove the center console fascia to get to the instrument cover screws and remove the instrument cover. Then you can get to the instrument holding screws and move the instrument panel out of the way. Either a service manual or AutoZone.com will have this information and pictures. Replace the flasher with a genuine Toyota flasher relay. The aftermarket relays might look like they fit but I have found out they don't work properly. The flasher is bolted to the firewall with a 13mm bolt. Take out the bolt and replace the flasher.

Previa van won't start even after battery changed

they're speaking of fuseable links. They are larger gauge wires that are in the wiring harness near the battery off the positive battery cable. many times they have "swollen" junctions where they connect to the wiring itself and contain the fuseable element. they carry larger multi-circuit feeds to important components like the fuse box. use a simple light (lamp) driven test light to check them before and after the swollen part of the fuseable link. when you find the bad one replace with an actual fuseable link and not just a big wire because if a short exists (say at the back of the fuse panel) an unfused feed will burn up the panel or even do more damage to the wiring harness, and the cost of the repairs will soar. fire is even a possibility.
NOTE: toyota vans often have very long and expensive battery cables, perhaps even "junctions" where one connects to the next. check these cables while disconnected with an ohm meter or by bypassing them with jumper cables. keep a fire extinguisher handy should something go wrong.
