Jumper cables hooked up backwards
a good rule of thumb when jump starting your auto from another ones is that sometimes the problems go from one auto to the other. if they had a bad starter this process could damage yours. i dunno how old yours is but if it turns over and just wont start you might have burnt out the points. is this an american model? if it is just replace the points and perhaps even the distributor cap.both relatively inexpensive and never hurts to have new ones. best of luck to ya mate.

Right side low beam not working. High beam works
Is the filament inside the bulb broken? If so, the low beam is burned out.Try swapping with the left bulb (assuming it works ok) and see if the right side works correctly. If so, replace the burned out bulb.

Gear question
Assuming this is a standard transmission, you always have it in 1st gear. Roll back is controlled by balancing the clutch with the gas pedal.
If an automatic transmission, then the vehicle should hold itself on the incline, unless it is a steep incline, to which you may use the gas pedal to hold the vehicle on the slope, and not the brake. And you would always have the transmission in the main drive gear position.

Have loud noise from engine, gets louder w/more
Serpentine belt tightener pulley bearing was bad, made a loud noise. I replaced the pulley (jobber part) and the noise level was reduced enough to notice the waterpump was also making a noise ... more revs = louder noise. I am now replacing the water pump. (approx 60k Miles too).
