How do i wire a smiths tachometer in a triumph
easy... remove the mechanical tach and fit the light from the old one to the new eletric tach. Next run a wire from the back of the tach connection that looks like a small pole and run that to your ignition coil - negative side. Also make sure the ground wire (black) is mounted to one of the install bracket posts that hold the tach in place behind the dash.

Tr4 has duel carb front two sparkplugs are black
easy to do reset the carbs ,their SU type and the needle jet adjustment is a 1/2 inch nut on the bottom of the carb screwing it up reduces the mixture and lowering it increases the fuel ,list when engine warm and get the hissing right to balance them ,but without experiance use a gunson colourtune spark plug and trumpet type product as well to balance the airflow ,easy to do not difficult at all dont be scared of this old beast they were dogs when new let alone now as a classic ,not a patch on the 1600E cortina even better was the sumbeam rapier
Hello i am working on a 1978 triumph spitfire
sounds like the brake light switch is bad or not making contact when the pedal is pushed. check with a meter the switch and also make sure it is getting pushed in when pedal is pushed. could also be a disconnected or broken wire to the switch.

1976 spitfire, starts and idles beautifully, drives
it sounds very much like fuel starvation, what carbs? on SUs the needle valves can stick closed so that carb runs out of fuel and you run on 2 and abit untill the vibration opent the valve and off you go.
Hi, i have a triumph spitfire 4 1963 have recently
It sounds like you have to fit a ballast resistor in the power supply to the coil or get a 12 volt coil. Later spits (-ve earth) used a 9 volt coil with a resistor to drop the battery volts down when running, when starting the full volts are used but the starter will drop this to 9 or 10 anyway, this helped cold starts.)
