Removing thermostat from Daihatsu Charade

I have a chronic overheating problem with a 1994 charade that would appear to be circulatory. I need a manual to show me how to remove the thermostat to see if it's that that's causing the problem.

Oil getting into radiator/cooling system

I have had the head serviced and gaskets replaced etc. I thought this may solve the problem of oil into the cooling system. Has any one seen this problem before. 150kms of driving and tall the oil is pumped out of the sump and into the cooling system filling the expansion bottle. No water gets into the lubrication system, the oil remains clean all the time. Apart from that it is a mightyl little and goes really well.
Thanks for any help.

the only way for engine oil to get into the cooling system at such a high degree is if you have a cracked block. even a blown head gasket doesn't allow that much oil into the coolant system. if the block was cracked it would be the water jackets around the cylinder walls. even a cracked head would not allow for this to occure. now if you don't have engine oil in the coolant but transmission oil instead via the trans oil cooler this would mean that the radiator has a crack in the tanks along the side where the coils of the oil cooler runs through it,(this only applys to vehicles that have an integral trans oil cooler). another thing that could occure is that the heads are cracked and the coolant is mixing with the oil in the upper oil galleys in the heads and then getting pumped through the intake into the bypass. if this were to occure your vehicle probably would not start at all and even if it did I seriously doubt it would stay running. You stated that you just had the head gasket replaced. well if the heads them selves were warped or the block deck was warped and they were not planed then a new headgasket would not solve the problem to begin with. My suggestion is to take it back to the shop you had do it and have them do it again because i believe someone screwed up because you did not have this problem before so the mechanic did not do something right.

U can do this, use a B&M brand cooler, use a kit for your truck if availiable get one with screw in hose fittings, never use hose clamps on an oil cooler if u can avoid it, if u choose to use clamps check them and tighten them as ness at every oil change. try the link below for a cooler.

96 daihatsu charade idling problem

the car starts fine but when warmed up and slowing down for traffic lights the car stalls. the car will start again straight away but not idle . this problem is not always but annoying . please can someone help I have the same or very similar problem. I have a 1.3Ltr EFI 1993 Charade Hatch. It had been running perfectly, but the water pump seals gave out, so I have replaced the water pump and reconditioned the radiator. But what happens now is... that after about 5 minutes of driving (which gets it to about normal operating temp), it starts to rough idle. But it is more like its fast idle is turning on when its first started but not turning off and it revs up and down from around 550rpm to around 850rpm.

1. Check your water sensor and plenum temperature sensor.

2. The throttle body has a wax element air valve used for cold idle. As the water temperature increases, the wax element closes the idle fast port. Being the highest part of the coolant system you may have an air lock, which can be solved by bleeding the hoses on the throttle body.

Need to change a WATER PUMP on my DAIHATSU CHARADE GLXI 1994

Having difficulty in locating and removing the water pump from my Daihatsu Charade GLXI 1994 (M reg) 5 door hatchback,
Chassis No; JDAG200S000511881, can you help,

The location of the pump is on the left hand side of the engine when standing at the front of the car.
You will see (if you have aircon) two belts.
If you stand to the side of the car to look at the belts.
From memory the inner one (closest to the engine) drives the aircon compressor.
The outer one drives the water pump, you will see the pump belt wheel towards the back of the engine.

Getting into the pump is a bit tricky.
I basically unbolted the engine mount from the body which then allowed me to jack up the engine as I needed it to give me space to unbolt everything until the 3 water pump bolts can be seen.
Just make sure you know which bolts go back where.
From memory there were about 20 bolts to undo before I got to the water pump.

Aircon compressor bracket bolt I only loosened them from the engine not fully removed, the same with the alternator I only removed the adjusting bolt to remove the belt.

Oh I just thought of something to do before you remove the tension on the belts... loosen slightly the 4 small bolts that are on the wheel that bolts onto the water pump.

I think the only size sockets and spanners I used were 10, 12, 14 & 17.

It took me around 2 hours to get it all undone, and close to the same to put it all back together with the new pump.

It was kinda straight forward as you can see what you need to unbolt because you know what bit you need to get into.

I hope this helps a little, I am not sure if it is clear in the way I have written it. But feel free to ask any questions.

heap of white smoke on startup but not always

White smoke usually occurs when there is not enough heat to burn the fuel. The unburned fuel particles go out the tailpipe and typically produce a rich fuel smell. It's not unusual to see white smoke in the exhaust during cold weather until the engine warms up.

Faulty glow plugs or control module can cause white smoke on engine start up.

Low engine cranking speed may also produce white smoke.

If white smoke is still visible after the engine has warmed up, the engine may have one or more bad injectors, retarded injection timing or a worn injection pump.

Low compression or air in the fuel system can also be a source of white smoke.

Cant find the thermostat on my Daihatsu Applause

I have had a look at the water jacket at the top of the engine, the car gets really hot and when you stop you can hear the water bubbling into the expansion tank. I had the car serviced but the mechanic said it was fine ?? I have my doubts that he had a look.

It shouldn't be bubbling into your overflow tank.If you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the other end of the top radiator hose the housing it connects to has your thermostat inside it.
