The car was subjected to heavy braking when new
Hi.
If this happens after heavy breaking there is probably something out of place.
Check all vacuum hoses and check electrical connections to parts and sensor that determines the amounts of air and fuel in the mixture. The engine is revving up because the incorrect mixture is being sprayed through the injectors.
Do a code scanning. If an OBDII code is stored in ECU, that may help locating the problem.
Check thoroughly vacuum system. Check hoses and look for leaks spraying carb cleaner on vacuum hose and observing if number of engine revolutions is affected when you spray each hose (you will need someone checking revs from instrument panel, otherwise use a pressure gauge in vacuum hoses). Pay particular attention to vacuum hoses connected to PCV, EGR, and to brake booster vacuum hoses near to PCV valve.
Make sure that you have checked throttle body, accelerator control and even the pedal.
Check electrical connectors and valves' good working of the parts below. Such parts concur in determining the amount of fuel/air in the mixture to be injected:
1) Idle air control valve, wiring and solenoid, also called IAC valve. The IAC determines amount of air to be injected when idle. Check this if problem occurs mostly at idle. Check volts at solenoid, connectors, see if valve is opening and check vacuum hoses connected to IAC system.
2) O2 Sensors located in the exhaust system. Check connectors. If the O2 sensors are the problem you get a DTC (OBDII error code).
3) Air filter and air intake. Check that parts are in their place.
4) MAF sensor and IAT sensor located in the air intake. Check connectors and clean the sensors.
5) Throttle position sensor. Mounted on the throttle body. Check connector. The TPS can also be tested using a volt meter.
6) Check EGR. EGR system determines amount of recirculated gas to be injected with mixture. Defective EGR results in the engine revving up and down on its own or surging. Check volts at connectors, see
if valve is opening and check vacuum hoses connected to the system.
7) Check PCV valve and system similarly to what you did with EGR. PCV valve collects and recirculated gases from engine combustion that slip through the piston rings. Its symptoms when faulty are similar to those of EGR. Check this and the EGR with particular attention.
8) Check the air intake hose connected to the throttle.
Make sure that the problems are not in consequence of wrong shifting or misfire. In that case you will need to check different parts. The considerations above apply if the engine is surging and revving up and down as described in your comment.
Check with particular attention PCV, EGR and the vacuum hoses near to such valve. If this model uses a brake booster connected to vacuum near PCV (it should), that may be the cause for the problem.
Regards.
Ginko

Hey i have a hyundai
Look for two bolts a the bottom of the panel. One for each side. If there are no bolts then they clip on you will have to pop them off start at the bottom.

Hyundai sonata runs rough, little power, wet coil
Use a high pressure AIR jet so that the water is blown off and also use a hot air dryer on the coil.
It is possible that the wet coil has reduced the firing intensity and made the engine rough with a change of timing.
