There are a number of drive cycles that the car needs to go though before the ECU will set itself up correctly. This should happen over time but sometimes it's worth following the drive cycle requirements to speed things along. Check out http://www.bluejag.co.uk for details on engine drive cycles/

How do you check-add transmission

Apparently, there is no dip stick on Jag S-type. It sounds like there may be a "level" plug in the drain plug underneath, and a fill plug in the side of the transmission. Some additional clues at:
http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/11484525
It sounds like it could be a little complicated. You may want to call a dealer or shop for a quote to check the level?

I have a 2004 Jaguar S-Type, the check engine

There is no reason for pulling the heads off, but coils about $80 each. If you have the V-8, that would be $640 if they replaced all coils. I would never do that. I would test each one. It isn't even hard to do. A tune up is usually plugs only. Then if the codes do not clear, you would start testing coils (not replacing them). Is there another shop you can go to?

I turned on my 2004 Jaguar S type car and left in

The J gate is off and needs to be reset. This requires an experience mechanic. The J gate is located underneath the battery on top of the tranny. Turn the ignition to the on position, place the hand brake on, and shift the tranny in neutral. loosen the outer bolt to the J gate shift plate. It should be under some tension and will release to the proper position. tighten the bolt again and start the car. It will only start in neutral so don't worry about it jumping. When the car starts, you know it is in the right position. Run the shifter to park, reverse, drive to make sure all the gears are in their position. Readjust if necesarry.

Self levelling headlights. Both

Yes you can self adjust the headlight. But it cannot be over adjusted. If its over tighten/adjusted then the assembly can get cracked or bulb itself can get faulty. Also if the headlights not working on high beam and only on low beam then the bulbs connections needs to be checked to the headlight. ---------------- Thanks.Helpmech.

Jaguar 2.7 diseal -s type. when i put my heater

Hi

Very common on this car is the EGR valve, it is basically an Exhaust Gas Recycler it reuses the unburnt fumes from the exhaust and pushes them back through the engine to burn again. If this part has failed or has become dirty which is quite often the case on Diesel cars then it would certainly cause the smell in the cab and the ticking.

It's worth mentioning that these can be very expensive around £250 at worst but in most cases you can remove them your self and clean them with carburetter cleaner, don't use anything else though.

Inside the EGR valve is a small sensor not dis similar to that of an air sensor, just spray it with the cleaner leave it to dry naturally and then refit it. if it has worked you will notice the car will feel more responsive to. and the ticking would stop.

Hope this helps
