1993 Jaguar XJ6 - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Are there any things that I should look for when
Dear Shoot2ki1l,
These are great cars when all is well. But they can get expensive quick when they break. If you have a regular mechanic, you should take it in and have him/her run full used car inspection. This way you know exactly what you are buying into. If you do not have a regular mechanic, you can take it to the local Jaguar dealer. They can also run the VIN number to check for open recalls.
The A/C system on this car is R-12. You want to see if it has been changed over to the new R134a refrigerant. If not, you should check your local dealer,or an after market A/C shop, for the cost of the change over and adjust the purchase price.
The only strange problem we have had with this body style is water seeping into the transmission control module. It would cause the transmission to go into a limp in mode until it dried out. It took a little while to figure it out water was causing the concern. Once sealed up,the concern was gone.
I hope this helps. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to drop me a line. Thanks,Chuck
93 Jaguar XJ6 ALternator not charging
you'll have to check the alternator to be sure .Because if it is not charging it means that the current goes in. But it does not go around the alternator . It means that there is a wire from the coil that is not connected .You should disconnect the alternator to your car for inspection.
What tools will i need to remove a transmission
You will need some basic hand tools--a good socket set and a set of combination wrenches. I would also suggest having a floor jack handy so you can support the transmission as you are removing it.
1993 Jag XJ 6 --interior lights dont
First thing is we know we have a dead short. So first take out your interior bulbs and put in a fuse. If it did not blow one of the bulbs or light assembly is bad. If it did the problem is in the wiring going to the lights. Check the door switches first they could be shorted out.One or both. This can be a slow process but if you take your time the short can be found. Just do it one step at a time. If you need any more help leave a comment and I'll get back to you.
I have a 1993 xj6 and it is stuck in ignition kill mode
Is this a factory installed Alarm or After market? If it is Factory installed is is actually part of the ECM programming. If it is after market, there is most likely an separate alarm horn mounted on your Firewall or wheel well, Locate that and trace the wires back until you find the in-line fuse and pull it. That should disable the alarm and kill switch. Now, if it is a factory Alarm and part of the ECM the only fix I can think of would be to replace the ECM. I don't think Jag had an Alarm as an option in 1993 but it is remotely possible. The only other places to look for the Alarm control module are under the Steering wheel Dash area, Behind the Glove Compartment on the passenger side or in the trunk.
Battery dead won't charge battery is brand new
try to trickle charge it four about five hours then see if it"ll crank over. put on bike check voltage should read 12.6v...then start engine and rev up to 3000rpm and watch with the meter the voltage will spike up to about 13,5 to 14v and then will quickly drop down to 13v. this means the regulator is doing it job.
1991 Jaguar XJ6 Soverign 4.0 Water in the engine oil
Get engine warm and do a compression test. This easily eliminates head gasket. Head gasket is a biggish job and time wasted if it is not the problem. Part throttle breather unlikely as this is a vacuum applied to the cam cover, so water is unlikely to get in there as the air is coming out of the engine. But, if water is in the inlet manifold, could it be the inlet manifold to head gasket? I can't remember for sure, but I think this is water heated? If so, that is probably your culprit. If not, it sounds like a top end water leak and unlikely to be head gasket, head gasket leaks nearly always show up as steam out of the exhaust - "white smoke". Hope this helps.
Jaguar xj6 won't start
Timing out ,check it on no1 cylinder at TDC then check distributor position ,the arm is pointing at no1 plug lead
