Why does it start for just a split second, then die?

Sounds as if you are not really getting power to the "run" wires, but only to the "start wires". The smart move would have been to get a new key, instead of ruinning the switch.

My 2000 sc 2 wont start, oil had spilled over the engine so i strayed it off, it was driving fine when i turn it off, would not crank back up

High pressure car washes can get water into electrical components, and can damage parts which are still very hot (coils, etc). Try drying everything electrical and see what you get. If still no start, run usual troubleshooting, such as check for spark to plugs, fuel delivery, etc.

How do I install spark plug wires

One by one pull wire off. Compare length of removed wire to new wires . Get the right sized one. Plug it back on the same way you took it off feeling for a click to make sure it's on tight both ends. Sometimes when you pull the plug wire off, the end , metal piece may stay on the plug. You must remove this by pulling it before replacing the new wire. Most important part is to do them one by one so they don't get mixed up

Saturn stuck in 2nd gear

There is a little plastic cap on the end of the shift lever that is inside the transmission that breaks. You can access it from inside the car, take out the emergency brake, the carpet and carefully remove the top plate on the transmission. You may need to hire someone experienced in how to realign the selector levers and reinstall with a new plastic cap.

Need to install new wires

Does your engine look like this? I have numbered the wires to their respective plugs. NOTE: this is not the firing order, I used to numbers only to match the wires to the plugs. Hope this helps ! 0c410630-9798-428e-9f09-4c5ec10e2bae.jpg

Where is the flasher located in a 2000 Saturn SC1

The flasher is located on the BACK/REVERSE SIDE of the fuse panel (sides of console), you must remove both panels and fuse centers to access it. It is quite a job. it is a module not the little can like older cars.

Any tips on changing a standard trans in a 2000 Saturn SC. I've never done it before?

I suggest that you get the vehicle specific manual for the exact process but here's the general idea:Remove:The hood, the front axle nut on both sides, the tie rod ends, and ball joint, as much of the brake system and suspension as necessary to get the axles removed. Then, with it up in the air on sturdy ramps/supports:CV Axles (making sure to put blanks (broom stick handle cut off) in their place to prevent anything in the transaxle from slipping out of place, the starter, shift linkage, grounding straps/wiring harness, shift cables, speedo cable or wiring as applicable, sometimes both, any lines, cables, wiring that is going to the transaxle. Remove the slave sylinder and set it to the side and tape it to prevent if from coming apart or being damaged. You'll need to loosen the motor mounts and possibly remove the coolant hoses to the engine as you may need to tilt the engine downward to get the trans. released and have room to pull it out.REMEMBER THE EXACT ANGLE YOU USED TO PULL IT OUT, THAT'S HOW YOU'LL NEED TO REINSTALL IT!!!!!You should have everything out of the way, a hoist over the engine/trans compartment hooked to a sling around the transaxle to lower it and remove it from the bottom side once you remove the transmission mount and the bellhousing bolts. There is a bar designed to hold the engine in place so that it doesn't tilt too much, you'll have to fabricate a means from underneath or above for that. Many of these FWD manufacturers say you can't change the trans without pulling the motor too! I've not found that to be true. It has been difficult though as space is limited and positioning is everything! It is best to replace everything, clutch, throw-out bearing, pilot bushing/bearing, pressure plate and use a good alignment tool when putting everything back together. If the flywheel isn't perfect, you may want to remove it and have it resurfaced at a machine shop.IT's not a job you'll want to do more than once in a short period of time.Good luck !

How do I take apart

I would HIGHLY recommend you don't take apart an alternator unless you are a trained professional in which case you shouldn't be asking this question.

The alternator has many different components that could SERIOUSLY injure you.

If you're having issues with your alternator - replace it.

How to change head light lamp on a Saturn S-Series

Hello,
Purchase the replacement light you need from an auto parts store. Give them the year and particular Saturn S Series model number to acquire the right part. Also indicate whether you need the high or low beam light bulb, as some S Series models require separate bulbs.
  • Turn off the engine. Pop the hood and secure it open. Disconnect the battery cables from the battery by grasping the cable and pulling it straight off of the positive and negative battery terminals.

  • Position yourself in front of the headlight you wish to repair. Look behind the headlight assembly to find the wiring harness for the headlight assembly. Lift the locking tab, grab the wiring harness and pull the wiring directly away from the assembly.

  • Grab the old headlight bulb, twist it counterclockwise and pull it out of the headlight assembly. Replace it with a new bulb and secure it by turning it clockwise.

  • Reconnect the wiring harness to the headlight assembly and reconnect the battery cables. Test the lights to see if they work properly.

  • Thanks

My service engine light is on in my saturn sc1, it

the first step is to have someone hook an analyzer to it and find out what is making the service engine light stay on. that way you have a plan instead of blindly changing parts hoping to accidentally fix it.
it runs for a while, so it would seem that is is suffering a fuel starvation problem or something is heating up and knocking out the ignition. intermittent fuel pump, something restricting the fuel supply, ignition module. there is a sensor in the back of the block, behind the starter, which causes random shut offs as it fails.
