Cooling fan only comes on
1. Question. Are you sure you only have 1 cooling fan? If YES, then you probably have a faulty coolant temperature switch . It should be located very close to your thermostat housing . Keep in mind that you have a coolant temperature sensor for your computer and also one for your temperature gauge . Therefore, be sure to replace the right one .

1989 Audi 90 Quattro problem
Try changing the fuel filter, first. If that does not work try replacing the pump. Also make sure you run 91 or higher octane.

What type of oil for this model?
Always use full sythetic. Yeah is cost more. But I feel it is worth it. 10/40 will be adequate. With later models I always add a bottle of Lucas oil treatment. Don't forget your filter.

the screw for the shelf under the wheel may be too long, it shorts it out.

Hall sensor
Hi Tox
The hall sensor on your 1987 Audi 90 is fitted in the distributor body,You can purchase the hall sensor on its own,Or buy a secondhand distributor.
Fuel starvation
real good chance you've sucked up all the dirt on bottom of tank and plugged fuel filter. I'd change that before going any further.
