You need a professional mechanic with a scanner. Never drive a car with a flashing check engine light except to get it off the road. Flash = serious issue.

Have the EGR valve checked. This unit is the exhaust gas recirculation valve and when faulty it WILL cause loss of power.

Sounds like the transmission interlock switch for the starting circuit is malfunctioning. It keeps the car from starting in gearshift position but park. The interlock switch can be temporarily jumped out of the circuit to test if this alleviates the starting issue. If it does, get repaired immediately since this is a safety feature.

Talk to the person you bought it from. Ask if it happened to them. YOu don't describe what is not working. Is the starter turning the engine over? Is there spark? Is there gas? Etc

Most likely your key has failed. You should find and try your spare key if you still have it. If not, then you will require someone with a tool to scan immobilizer codes and verify if there is a fault in the immo system or if it simply is saying INVALID KEY. If its faulted, it will require repairs. If its invalid key, you can use your backup key, or have a new key programmed by a mechanic or locksmith with key programming tools

Immobiliser key transmitter failure?

It's your built in security alarm , have you changed the battery lately ? The procedure to reset it is: Unlock drivers door with key, then use key fob in unlock door mode, put key in ignition switch, foot on brake , transmission in park or neutral and clutch depressed (If applicable )

either the wires are connected wrong and you just fried it..or you have the leads backwards..red is poitive.. black is ground..may need to replace it all again..

Sounds like a bad Idle Control Valve, have it scanned and see for sure.

Black Smoke is too much fuel, Blue Smoke is Oil and White Smoke is Coolant. Sounds like the Catalytic Converter is burning itself out because of too much fuel.

If the radio code is not getting accepted then radio needs to be replaced.But instead of spending $1200, for radio, you can try getting after market radio for your Volvo and that will save a lot.-------
In using after market radio, you need to get the original factory radio connector bypassed,. that will only let the after market radio to work. agree, idle control valve is a stretch. I would check the EGR valve for proper operation and clean the hoses if they are dirty. If not that, maybe the MAP sensor is off. Does it cut out when you open the throttle or even when you just stop at the intersection?
