This is a gearbox issue. Both codes relate to the transmission. Specifically P0717 is to do with an engine speed sensor that lets the gearbox know when it is supposed to change gear. Have you had any work done recently. They might have disturbed some wiring causing this problem. Replacing this sensor is not a simple task as i believe it is inside the box so requires the gearbox to be removed. There are some good Volvo forums on the internet that will be able to help you and point you to a local independent Volvo garage rather than a main dealer to keep costs down.

Borrow a code reader from an auto parts store (free) and see if any trouble codes show up (the device will have instructions and is easy to use). That should give you a clue to the problem. Problem could be sensors of some kind. If no codes, could be a clogged fuel filter -- when was it last changed?

On a web search I found several people that had similar weird dash lights/operation issues. Someone thought it might be a faulty ignition switch but that was not it. Your issue may be similar .. a faulty relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood...which I think is just forward of the driver side wheel well. Usually there is a legion/map on the underside of the lid that tells you what each relay and fuse is. Good luck on your troubleshooting

the fuel filter is it a inline type filter if so check the arrow on the filter make sure the fuel is flowing in the right direction because some of these filters have a non return valve in them.a garage made this mistake with my brothers car, hope this helps its worth checking. it sounds like a restriction of fuel

I had a similar problem after having my oil changed at jiffy lube. The problem was that they hadn't fully tightened the oil filter, so it was leaking oil when the engine was running. They did it to me on two cars. I don't go there anymore. If you don't see smoke, you're not burning it. If you don't see it under where you park your car, it's not leaking when the car is parked.

Go snug plus 1/8th of a turn. That is how I was taught and have done for 35 years without issue.

Your transmission will do this if it senses a problem with 2nd gear (or 1st, 3rd, or 4th for that matter) You can try to disconnect the battery overnight so that it may reset the error. Ultimatly if the error does not reset or comes back it is time to head to the dealer. That transmission is 'sealed' as in there is no dipstick to check fluid levels or top off fluids.

You cannot and I repeat cannot do this job without the line up tool for the camshafts. The reassembly of this engine is set for about 30 degrees off of tdc. There are no marks for the cams to line them up. You need the jig that holds the cams in place. I have 35 yrs working on Volvos as a professional tech. YOU CANNOT do this without the tool.

try disconnecting the battery ,leave for ten minutes for the electronic gizmos to power down ,i should say make sure you have the radio code , reconnect battery and try ignition if no change will need to be scanned on the Volvo diagnostic setup as i would'nt expect a generic OBD reader to be able to resolve this issue

it is telling you that there is a fault reported that if not attended to will damage the engine or transmission. So check the coolant level at the radiator cap, check all oil levels check for overheating. Have the fault codes read asap as ignoring the light could lead to very expensive repairs.
