If it a mechanical speedo you most likely need a new cable, if electronic a new sensor that goes in the transmission.

I had the same problem when my head gasket went last July 4th. You may have to adjust the idle under the hood. I also had a jumped timing belt, but that's probably irrelevant. And like Chuck said, I recommend buying a manual, it has everything you need to know about your car. Hope this helps!

Hi Zac first thing i would check is fuel pressure. remove fuel hose to fuel rail hold hose into container get some one to crank motor only for a few seconds and turn ignition off..if no fuel ! suspect; fuel pump . also listen for fuel pump to hum when turning ignition on it should make some noise! hope this gives you something to check. as a mechanic i have come across this as a problem before.

Have thermostat and fan operation checked

You will have to strip the box and check the syncro''s on the gears . It sounds like a broken synchro ring.

Could be the throttle cable is not well lubricated, is in a bind somewhere, or has too stiff a return spring.
