1) The overdrive override switch wiring is shorted to ground.
2) The overdrive override solenoid is defective.
3) (rare) the AW71/71L/72 has an issue, such as needing a fluid change, valve body is dirty or some other unusual fault. This is quite rare as the three transmissions are very similar in construction and very sturdy.

A worn out ignition key can cause this problem too. Jiggle the key around in the cylinder and try to turn the key. If you have a spare key, try that because it might be less worn. Dealers can cut fresh keys if you have the VIN and can verify registration/ownership.

Hi

Most likely cause is the air mass meter also known on modern cars as the MAF sensor. check for any air leaks in the pipes also. any rips in the air pipes will choke the engine.

Hope this helps

The code required by the radio is an anti-theft feature. Its put in place so that in the event that your radio is stolen from your vehicle, it will be completely useless to the thief. Take it to your dealer with your vehicle information and they should be able to enter the code there and re activate your radio for you.

hi-
my 1989 760 turbo wagon died with no warning wednesday morning. it was running fine, i stopped at the post office for 5 minutes, and it wouldnt start. it still hasnt.
i found good information at this page:
http://www.k-jet.org/documents/greenbooks/700-series/
scroll down and there is a link to the greenbook ignition manual (incomplete, buy mostly there) http://www.k-jet.org/files/greenbooks/700/TP31397-1_700_ignition_incomplete.pdf , with excellent troubleshooting instructions if you're handy with electrical testers. there is also a link to the 760 wiring diagram manual http://www.k-jet.org/files/greenbooks/700/TP31075-1_760_wiring_diagrams.pdf. good luck!
