Your vacuum diaphragm(s) are bad which control the blend doors. But first try replacing the vacuum lines which go from the passenger side into firewall. Otherwise, dash has to come out to replace those vacuum diaphragms

Cylinders need 3 things to fire. Fuel/air, compression and spark. The codes say 3 & 5 are misfiring. Normally one starts with confirming you have good spark. If the plugs are good, as in don't have to many miles on them. Then you may need to check the coils. If it will run at all, I would then swap those 2 coils with 1 & 4. Reset codes. Run it until the CEL come on and see of the codes follow the coils, if so replace them. If it wont start at all, check for proper fuel pressure, because it should start and run rough if only 2 cylinders are mis-firing.

It could be many things, bad regulator, bad diode in the alternator, or even a bad ignition switch or even a bad ground. You will need to do some trouble shooting with a multimeter to find the source of your issues. Good Luck and may the force be with you.

Slim Jim will not work on that car. You need a tool that will lift the lock button on the door. The one I have is a pc of plastic strip with dental floss attached and it works great on that car

Does the transmission shift up when this happens? Is the engine real loud when this occurs? Possible the transmission is not shifting up. Could also be a failing Crankshaft position sensor which causes timing to retard. I would also check fuel pressure when this is happening

No 740 made in 2001. Sparks shooting from any dist cap could be several things; Cracked cap, bad ignition wires, incorrectly installed cap.

The battery is in the trunk on driver side. Remove the carpet pc, spare tire cover and unbolt the bracket holding it down. Disconnect the negative side first then the positive. Wear gloves while doing this. Install the battery and reverse the procedure.

You need to go to the Volvo dealer with your vehicle registration and ID to get the code.

Do not attempt this job unless you have the tool to lock the camshaft in position. Because it has a variable valve timing pulley you will not get it right without the tool.

They do wear out. If it has play then it is worn internally and needs replacement. If it is just leaking it can be taken apart and resealed. It does not cost Volvo alot of money it costs YOU a lot of money.
