took to auto zone error P0401
replaced EGR valve

Jason,
-after you change the part you have to reset/clear the code

-this can be done by either:
(1) using the OBD2 code reader that Autozone used OR since option 2 (below) is very quick
(2) disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds (this will delete all codes/radio presets/etc) but it will also clear the 'check engine' code
-this is what I do AFTER i write down my radio station presets :)

-hopefully the new EGR valve resolves your issue after you CLEAR the code
...but that code just means a an insufficient amount of Exhaust Gas recirculation (pressure difference) used to keep the emissions in check
-if it comes back, then there are a few other fixes to try also

-let me know if you need further assistance
-please remember to rate me `fix-ya`if it works
thanks

How can I put car in neutral if battery is dead?

My 2000 Honda Accord has a dead battery. I can not put the car in neutral to push out of garage and jump. What am I doing wrong?

What you have is a safety switch, wich is why when the car is running you need to step on the brake to release the shifter from park. the switch is electric, and therefore isn't working because your battery is dead. Now, for the good news. Next to your shifter there should be a little plug, or a slot about the size of your door lock key hole. Insert your key into the slot, press down lightly, and then you can take the car out of park. That is called your "shift lock release"
Good luck!

2000 Accord Transmission Problem

I have a 2000 Accord 4cyl automatic. It has over 194,000 and has had all maintenance done on it as scheduled. Lately it has had a problem getting into first gear. From a stop, when you attempt to accelerate the engine RPM will raise to approx 1200 rpm and then it will drop into gear with a thud and the vehicle moves. The D4 light has never flashed to my knowledge, the check engine light is not on, and I am getting no codes. I had a retired Acura mechanic (a friend of a friend) check it out and he says the tranny needs replaced. I did change the fluid twice in an attempt to flush as much of the old fluid out as possible and to check for burnt and/or visual contamination. I found niether. The belief at this point is that the clutch pack that controls first gear probably is slipping and the tranny replace is the correct action. I am willing to do that since this car is in great shape; however, should I check anything else out before I do so?

Hello mew2149...Honda had a recall on your transmission for several failures, the one you describe being among them. If you have 194k with no problems then you are one of few. Honda extended warranty to help owners absorb the cost. http://world.honda.com/news/2002/4020920.html A good transmission shop will be able to evaluate your problem better with pressure tests. The torque converter could be bypassing fluid, pump weak, clutch pack worn...etc. Good luck...i hope this helps.

You should have received a key number plate with your keys when you got the car. You will need this key number in order to get a key replaced. If you need to replace a key, you have to use only Honda-approved key blanks (probably means you will have to get them from Honda). These keys contain electronic circuits that are activated by the
Immobilizer System. They will not work to start the engine if the circuits are damaged.
You should have received 2 master keys (black) and 1 valet key (grey) in addition to the Key Number Plate when you got the car.
I hope this helps you.

po300 random mulitple misfire detected p1399

po300 random mulitple misfire detected p1399 misfire any cylinder

Answer

If only one of your cylinders was misfiring, you probably would be getting a more specific code than P1399.
Also check the distributor rotor along with the cap and coils and wires (as mrgreenz suggests); the EGR valve to make sure it doesn't leak; your fuel pressure which can cause random misfires if the pressure is too low; and injectors if they are really dirty. If you have really high mileage, I probably would first just change out the plug wires with a new set, then reset the DTC and see if the code comes back.
Hope this is helpful as well.

p0740 honda odyssey

dont run good.

Answer

P0740 Honda - Transmission Lock-Up Control System Fault Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection

Tech notes
On some Honda vehicles the P0740 code may be set by an overheating torque converter problem which is caused by an insufficient flow to the torque converter release circuit.

P0740 Honda Description
The torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4, by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the vehicle speed and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Lock-up piston operation will then be controlled. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, the torque converter lockup clutch will engage creating a 1 to 1 RPM ratio between the transmission input shaft and the rotational speed of the torque converter.
Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 2/8) in lock-up condition, the engine speed should not change abruptly. If there is a big jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.
