1988 Honda Prelude - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Let me explain again, I
some of your new parts might be manufacture defected because the manufacture does not test every part coming from the lines. ANother thing have you checked the timing out with a timing gun to see if the timing is ok ? ANother also did you replace the new dist. cap and button in the right place of the old one was at ? Sometimes when you change some things with your car that you also have to check for timing issues because where and how you put the dist. cap and button at if not the way of the old one was. It could be off alittle bit to make this happen.
My 1988 honda prelude s
either your shift solenoid on the inside of your transmission have gone bad or the gears have got worn out
I have a 1988 honda
your fuel tank has a leak which means its getting air or releasing air outside of the fuel tank is why the fuel pump is not working properly because of where the leak is at by this changing the pressure.
It cranks but wont start.
if you are sure there is no spark and you have replaced the coil, then the only other thing it could be is your spark control moduel.it works off your computer to tell your plugs when to fire..somettimes they go out only when they heat up and will start working again after they cool down,,but sometime they don"t give you any warning and just stop working all together.. would say you have a bad Spark Control Moduel.....it is pretty easy to fix, just make sure you use or buy the right tools to take it off , ask at the Auto parts store to get the right tool, and the right part..
My clutch is not engaging
pump the clutch 25 times with the engine off
try the clutch afterwards with the engine running. If it grabs the slave cylinder needs to be replaced and possibly the rest of the clutch parts as well
I have a major current
Did the old battery need replacing , and or did the same thing ???? If yes then maybe its your altenator , take it up to auto zone and have it tested free of charge!!!! and if its good get a second opinion from another mechanic, or take out your amp and subwoofers =)
1988 honda prelude, 120,000 miles,
Hi,
All I can offer is personal advise on this one and largely it depends on the value you place on the car however just a couple of questions I would be inclined to ask, why has he suddenly decided it needs a new transmission after carrying out the work, did you have any problems with gear changes etc previous to taking it to him? It`s likely he has had to remove the drive shaft from the transmission to replace the cv assembly so has he damaged it during removal and refitting himself? Also did he suggest forgoing the title to him as payment or did you? Again it`s a bit strange sounding, if he suggested it then I would be dubious of his motives.
Ultimately it`s up to you to decide what makes better sense financially to you, just be sure this transmission fault is not due to his workmanship and this is not just a cover up attempt.
Hope this helps and thanks for using fixya,
John
How do you get to the instrument lights on an 88
you have to take it out, it takes about an hour to do . if your lucky you wont break it those old plastic parts are brittle.just start taking out the screws ,there two screws behind the cluster dimmer switch and the headlight /foglight switch just pry them out with a small screwdriver. all the plugs are color coded . there are also two screws near the windshield under two square plugs that have to come out.
