The hot water from your engine cooling system is not getting into the heater core. Check out the valve that admits water into it.

Why does my car start then die when i let go of the key?

You have an ignition problem. For some reason it is not staying engaged and could be as easy as a spring in the tumbler.

We purchased a 95 Audi A6 Quattro from a friend. It won't start. Everything come on...Lights, radio, windows roll down. We do not have the master key. We have taken the alternator off and are in t

It absolutely could be the immobilizer (security system). Have you ever had the master key? All the keys should work but if one becomes deprogrammed it needs to be reset (unfortunately by the dealer). But, before you do that...Have you checked the voltage level of your battery? It could very well be that your battery has enough juice to power all the accessories but not enough to crank the engine. Try jump starting the car or replacing the battery and see if it starts. Let us know if that works.

How to test cam sensor 95 audi a6 2.8

Hi David, Remove the sensor and hook up an analogue voltmeter to the two cables. Set the meter at mili voltage and pass a metal screw driver across the business end of the sensor, without coming into contact with it. You should have a distance of about 0.5 of a millimeter gap between the sensor and the screw driver. The voltage generated is very small and the pulse will only occur as the field is broken. In other words its a two man job. If the needle of the meter moves the sensor is fine, if not replace it. It is very important to use an analogue meter as the pulse is too small to be noticed on most digital meters. Regards John

Fans on a Audi A6 don't come on, is it the thermoswitch, if so where is it?

You can put those on an independent switch. The sensor for the gauge is mounted on the bottom of the coolant inlet neck on the left side of the engine, it is actually called an Electronic Thermoswitch. The fan relay has most likely gone bad. Here's the fan relay location, remove the kick panel above driver side feet. It's the one behind the big #287. Double check on the coolant sensor located behind the engine on the drivers side.
