The AC system probably needs checking for leaks and re-charging.

I have the exact same car that had the exact same problem. I looked high and low for months trying to figure out the problem. I changed the fuel pump, coil packs, spark plug wires, plugs, throtle position sensor and nothing fixed it. It would crank fine, but when it warmed up it would spit and sputter like it was running out of gas. It would shut off and would not crank back until it cooled off. The computers in those cars have something wrong with them causing it to starve the car for fuel. I sent my computer to Auto Computer Exchange in Davie Fl. They repogramed the computer with a one year warenty for $305. I put it in the car and It is fixed. One other thing that might happen with this car is the insturment cluster will go out. These cars are known for that. If this happens just go on Ebay and buy a rebuilt one for less than $100 it wil have a lifetime gurantee. good luck Ed

Coul dbe a proble with the temperature sensor, go to bad or some wire/harnesses loss.

More than likely the battery needs to be charged or replaced. If the battery is over five years old this is a strong possibility that it is bad. AAA will come to your location and test your battery, and charging system for free, if you are a member. They will also replace the battery at your location at a costs. I recommend that you become a member of AAA, as one towing, or service call more than pays for the annual membership fee.

who makes the ls400? mercedes?

Either fuel is dripping into cylinder after the ign is turned off or you have carbon built up on the valves or plugs and it it hot and ignites the air fuel mix when you turn ign off pull spark plugs and inspect.

fold down back seat and mess with the latch from the inside, its a tight squeeze but is possible in most cars.
