The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. Have the starter tested for free at a parts store. If it is good, check battery terminals, cables, and connections-all of them-for a clean, tight connection. If still no go, have the starting circuit checked-the neutral safety switch may be a problem.

if you have a dfi system digital fuel injection be sure you clear the malfunction trouble codes after you install the new harness youll need to remove the battery voltage to terminal r for 10 seconds to reset the ccc computer command control system

Suggest you try a jump start of your car. If it starts, then it is either the battery or the alternator. If it doesn't then, you can take off the serpentine belt and try to rotate the engine with a large wrench (CW). If it rotates, then it will be your starter or starter solenoid or the starter relay.

Please don't even think about trying to disarm your anti-theft system because there is an easier solution. I'm assuming that you don't have the full Shop Service Manual. If you do, then you know that a shop manual costs at least $100.

So why did I say: Don't even think about it? Your anti-theft device is capable of causing problems that you don't want to deal with. If you have the dealer do the job, the cost can be prohibitive. The anti-theft device tells the on-board computer to shut off the fuel flow and to disengage the starter circuitry.

SOLUTION: Go on eBay and buy an anti-theft bypass module for $10-$20 depending on the year and make of your vehicle. It'll take you thirty minutes to install the device.
