1989 Mercury Sable - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I want to view a 1989 Mercury Sable cooling fan
You can go to a Ford dealer and tell them you need a relay for your model. Make sure to give them the year, model and even VIN number. they should be willing to show you diagram of the relay and a part number. Your owner's manual will not have the part number but should have the location of the cooling fan relay.

Cooling fan wont come on 1989 mercury sable
First jumpering the fan motor to the battery is a bad idea. The fan will always run even if the vehicle is not running. The fan probably draws enough current to drain your battery overnight. To find the wiring diagram you may need to buy a chilton or haynes manual. If you know somebody who works for a ford or mercury dealer they may be able to get you a schematic.

Charge battery light is on
Might be a bad alternator, or a bad belt, or a bad battery. An auto parts store should be able to test it for you for free.

How to diagnose service engine
If your car has a code or the Check engine light is on, take it to a local Auto parts store. They will read the code for you for free. They do this in hopes of selling you the parts needed to repair the car. Now they can not, by law clear the codes for you unless they repair the problem. Hope this helps.

How do you get the housing that holds the heater
That is an all day job. You have to drain the coolant and freon drop the steering column and completely remove the whole dash to take out the black box and disassemble it to remove the heater core. It's a bad design in my opinion.

I have a 1989 Mercury Sable 47000 original miles,
The most common problem that causes this that i can think of is a detective pick-up coil in the distributor.Remove the cap and rotor button and then the plate that is under where the rotor button was, there you will find the pick-up coil and the reluctor wheel that makes it work. These will go open when warm periodically and can easily be overlooked, the ignition coil could also be the problem as well as the ignition module but the pick-up is the most common.
