1986 Mercury Topaz - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Car will run as long as key is turned to start position
Best bet -- transmission seals are leaking pressure to reverse and forward gears at the same time and lock up transmission then stalls the engine. You will need to have a pressure test on the transmission to see if the leak is caused by a leaking seal or a leaking reverse or forward solenoid. Also could be a fuel delivery issue, easy to test for but bleed off pressure first. Be careful.

I locked my keys in my car
Call a Locksmith. They are in the Yellow pages and your car insurance or Autoclub may supplement all or part of the cost.Sometimes a tool called a "Slim-Jim" can be used. Some Police have them and will help, some Tow truck drivers have them. There is little you can do that will not risk breaking a window or messing up a door gasket.

Trouble shooting Eli on 1991 mercury topaz
Have you ever replaced the spark plug wires and the distributor cap and rotor? If not then do that and pull a spark plug and see if the electrodes are worn out. I assume this is a very high mile vehicle due to the extreme age and it is a Ford.
WHERE IS THE FUEL PUMP RELAY FR 1990 MERCURY TOPAZ

How do i remove left front axle from a 1993 mercury topaz
-
-
3
Jack up the vehicle using the designated jack points. Then
place the jack stands under the pinch welds in the front of the vehicle
and lower the vehicle onto the vehicle.
-
4
Finish loosening the lug nuts and remove the wheel.
-
5
Loosen the spindle nut using the spindle nut socket attachment on your impact wrench.
-
6
Loosen and remove the top and bottom bolts on the brake caliper and secure it to the coil springs using the zip ties.
-
7
Remove the brake rotor. To do this, simply pull the rotor straight off the hub assembly.
-
8
Separate the lower control arm from the damper fork.
-
9
Pull the cotter pin out of the bolt holding the lower
control arm to the steering knuckle. To do this, you'll need to use a
pair of needle-nose pliers.
-
10
Loosen the bolt holding the lower control arm to the
steering knuckle. You'll need to use the tie-rod end puller to do this
correctly.
-
11
Swing the hub and steering knuckle out of the way. You will
need to simultaneously negotiate the end of the half shaft out of the
hub assembly while getting the hub and steering knuckle out of the way.
-
12
Pry the half shaft out of the transmission using a flat-head
screwdriver. You will need to place the screwdriver tip in between the
shaft and the transmission and rotate the screwdriver back and forth,
and the shaft will pop out of the transmission.
-
13
Insert the new half shaft. Make sure that you are inserting
the end of the shaft with the retaining ring into the transmission
housing. This ring is a "snap ring," meaning that when the shaft is
properly inserted and secure, you will hear an audible "snap." Use hard
grease to get the snap ring to "float" in the middle of the groove,
where it sits on the end of the shaft. Then insert the shaft. If you do
not use hard grease to center the ring on the groove, you will not be
able to insert the shaft all the way into the transmission.
-
14
Reassemble the hub assembly and steering knuckle, and put the wheel back on. This will be the reverse of removal.
-
15
Tighten the lug nuts, lower the vehicle to the ground and do a final torque on the lug nuts to 100 ft-lb.
