I have a 1996 plymouth grand Voyage. Imy boyfriend changed the oil. After that I had an oil leak.I had a friend come over and look at it. he said the it was leaking around the oil filter. I got a new

when replacing the oil filter be sure to coat the seal with a film of oil and tighten down good and snug (only hand tight! do not use a filter wrench to tighten down filter!) the reason your oil light is coming on when you stop is your oil pressure is so low its causing the "idiot" light to come on telling you theres something wrong. if you have a garage park the van in the garage and place card board under the motor. give it some time and then go check the cardboard. directly above each spot on the cardboard inspect the motor to track down where the leaks are coming from. that being said it sounds like your boy friend and other friend dont have any business under the hood of a car. i would recommend taking the car in to a professional shop before you permanently damage your motor. low oil pressure will cause irreversible damage to your motor and it doesnt take much time to happen. do not drive your car until you fix this issue or you will be shopping for a new motor or new car.

Will transmission input sensor keep motor from strating

No.The input speed sensor will not keep the vehicle from starting. It will, if it fails, cause the transmission to default to second gear, cause the trans not to shift, and turn on the check engine light. A code P0700 will be stored in the computer to let you know there are codes in the TCM.If you have no spark the first thing I would suspect is the Crank sensor. P1294 Target idle not reached

You can take an old spray bottle and fill it with water. Then with the engine idling or the idle raised to above 1200RPM, spray a water mist over the seams and Vacuum lines. Also spray around the Brake booster. If there is a leak, the water mist will cause a change in the engine RPM. Then fix the source of the leak. You probably should check with Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys for the part. You can see what it looks like at these 3 stores or look up the part with the Web Browser.Sometimes the passages that the idle control valve use can get dirty and the valving can freeze up. Depending on condition, WD40 sometimes can both clean and free up the parts. You can ask the Autoparts place what you need in the way of gaskets. The part should be somewhere in the intake manifold. I usually work on the Ford family of Brands.Once you work on this part, any of the 3 places can clear your onboard computer.

Check engine light po 731

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0731 is a transmission fault code and has a generic description of "GEAR RATIO ERROR IN FIRST GEAR".The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the input shaft speed and the output shaft speed of the transmission through the input and output speed sensors. The proper gear ratio will produce a predictable difference between the two sensors. This DTC sets when the expected difference differs greatly from the actual difference between the two speed sensor readings. This can be caused by several things including:> Defective input speed sensor> Defective output speed sensor> Defective connections or wiring between either speed sensor and the PCM> Shorted speed sensor circuit> Open speed sensor circuit> Slipping clutches inside the transmissionPlease note that Transmission Control Module (TCM) replacement WILL NOT correct for this code. The speed sensor data must be monitored with the proper equipment and the speed sensor circuits must be verified for proper function to determine the actual cause of this fault.

the cam sensor is a part in the distributor.you should check the voltage readings for the distributor and compare them to spec,to make sure the distributor is getting the correct readings.we used to get one from the wreckers as they were far cheaper than a new or rebuilt.you can have the unit sent away to be rebuilt to have only the defective part replaced or just buy a rebuilt unit.

Voyager dies while driving and won't start

Hello, replace the fuel filter. Also what type of fuel are you using in this Grand Voyager? Does the fuel have alcohol additive to it and/or are you using E85 fuel?

If you are using fuel will alcohol additive at 10% or more. These type fuel is used in the winter months where it cold---very cold. They are not suppose to sell this fuel in the summer months, especially in geographical areas of the US where it gets extremely hot.

Some states make the fuel distributors to add alcohol. Now, the experts who think they know how things work will say there no way a new vehicle can get vapor lock.....I conclude they don't what they are talking about. In very hot conditions, and the very high temperature under hood around the engine compartment. This temperature can be 350-400 degrees. This will cause the alcohol in the injector fuel rail turn into vapor. The fuel injector can"t inject vapor through the fuel injectors; therefore, the engine will stall and quick running. Trying to get the Grand Voyager started is impossible because of the high temperatures in the engine compartment. One will have to wait three or four hours for the engine and the engine compartment to cool down.

FIX, carry four or five one gallon contains of water during the hot summer months, watch the stop and go traffic then you"ll need to turn the air conditioner off, don't play with all the power systems.

Now, if the Grand Voyager stalls to "vapor lock" . Raise the hood and let hot air dissipate for about 10 minutes. Then take a gallon of water and pour on the fuel rail on both side of this engine, it is a V6. Make sure you are pour the water on the fuel rail, fuel regulator (has a rubber hose attached to fuel regulator) and the fuel injectors. Once you are done pouring the water at the needed places on the engine. Try starting you Grand Voyager, Remember to turn off, AC, and any devises that use power turn them also. The Grand Voyager will start but keep everything off. Now drive it about 10 to 15 miles with all none necessary items off. This drive will help to keep the temperature down. Once the temperature comes down then turn you AC unit on.

Now, while you are cruising at 60/70 and your Grand Voyager starts to hesitate then turn off AC and other power burning options. In the hot summer months you might try higher octane fuel 89 or 91 octane. Don't add any octane booster to the fuel---it's not good stuff----

Well Katherine, I hope and pray that the information that I have given you, will really help you.

walk gently upon this earth, and she shall be good to you for eternity. GB....stewbison

NEED TO FIND AND REMOVE STATER FROM 96 PLYMOUTH

I did a google image search for "remove starter voyager" and came up with the attached images. Assuming you have a 3.3 or 3.8 litre engine, the starter is located on the front side of the engine near the radiator, on the battery side of the engine. It's a bit of a pain to get to, but it is do-able. Removing the air intake housing attached to the top of the radiator will be necessary to get to the top bolt. I'm sure I don't have to mention, but I will; remove the negative cable from the battery to prevent accidental shorts when removing power cables from the starter. If you haven't already bought a new starter, you can get contact replacement kits to replace the copper contacts inside the starter. Much cheaper, and it is rather simple to do once you have the starter out. 10_19_2011_3_18_46_pm.jpeg10_19_2011_3_23_59_pm.jpeg

Replaced the power steering pump still hard to

If the pump is ok then the problem lies in the power rack and pinion unit. This is a common problem, and is caused by internal "O" ring seal leakage due to a scored piston bore inside the rack and pinion. You can try having the system fluid flushed clean and adding a of bottle LUCUS brand power steering fluid conditioner, I have seen this correct the problem. I have personally used the product and it works, not all the time but it is worth a try, the replacement of the steering rack is about a $900.00 job parts and labor.

If antifreeze is leaking into the cylinders you are going to need the head gaskets replaced. and yes both of your issues can be fixed BUT it would probably cost more or as much as a new car (~$1500-$2000).
