Off the heater hoses that connect to the heater core on back of motor by firewall.

use only Ford or Nissan themostat. has a small hole at top. Must be there.

how did you reset PCM? Disconnect battery?

sounds like fuel pump or distributor

You may have a bad pressure oil switch on the trans or a faulty signal from the TPS

They are 14 years old and like all mechanical things they have a service life. They moved past their designed lifetime in 2004 so you are 6 years to the good. I doubt you can find new old stock parts but if they are out there google is the place to search for them or ask a local Mercury dealer parts department. Any used parts are going to have the same lifetime and be in the same condition.

It;s located on top of the fuel tank, you will have to remove fuel tank and lower it in order to get to it, there you will also see a valve where the hose hooks up to, this valve might be stuck, thus creating the pressure you are describing. Good Luck.
