The problem may be the computer.Most 1990s Chrysler products used the computer to control the alternator.You may have to get someone with a shop manual to test the system.

Limp mode is activated by the ECM because it has detected a fault and it's trying to protect the transmission from further damage. You should take the car to have the transmission fixed ASAP,  and in no circumstance you should try to circumvent the protections on the car, they are there to save you money and grief.
