The battery died on my 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis and now I cannot open the doors even with the key. I can get in the trunk and noticed there are some wires hanging right behind backseat as if for a trailer connection. Can I plug in a battery to these wires or is there some way to get in with the key or even pop the hood without calling a locksmith? Thanks.

It takes about 5 minutes for my van temp guage to reach the middle(which it usually is at), but for the last few times I have driven it will suddenly go to the top (over Heat), but when I turn the heater on there is no hot air...after about a minute or two it goes back to mid point again. It also sounds as if the fan is running...I sense a sensor problem...can someone help me out please. The thermostat is fine, as is the radiator.
you have air trapped in the system.
Park facing uphill (on car ramps if you have them).
with cold engine, remove radaitor cap and fill radiator.
Fill reservoir.
leave cap on loose.
Turn on heater.
start engine and run until upper radiator hose gets hot (meaning thermostat has opened).
Check coolant level and top off. Repeat until temp gauage reads normal and heat is coming from heater ducts.

2000 Mercury Villager: Is there a shift lever adjustment? When placing foot on brake pedal and pulling shift lever rearward it doesn't feel like the transmission is completely disengaging and it is neccessary to pull forcefully to move the shift lever from ''Park'' to ''reverse'' or ''drive'' and the vehicle ''clunks'' upon doing so. Is there an adjustment to correct this?
You may have a loose shift linkage in the steering column. Remove the upper and lower plastic covers behind the steerong wheel (5 or 6 philips head) and see if you have any loose torx head or allen head screws. Ea
rlier models had this isue.

lost remote to disable alarm on 2000 mercury villager how can i disable it and start my van
If you have the factory alarm system, you can put your key into either door and lock and unlock the door, that signals the computer to deativate the alarm. If you have an aftermarket alarm system installed, it will have to be removed and the wiring that the alarm ties into must be restored to factory design.

how to replace the speed sensor on a 2000 mercury villager
Removal & Installation
Vehicle speed sensor location

I just broke the housing that the thermostat housing bolts to on my 1998 Mercury Villager, is this fixable???
looking for location of crankshaft position sensor on 2000 mercury villager with 3.3l engine. parts store says there are 2 per vehicle. found one at front of engine. any idea where the 2nd one would be?
The 3.3/3.8L crankshaft sensor is located on the rear of the transmission housing, above the differential housing The bottom of the sensor is positioned next to the drive plate. Remove the 10mm bolt holding the sensor in place and remove the sensor. Install the new crankshaft sensor.
Install crankshaft sensor bolt and tighten. Connect wiring. merry christmas !!

with your foot on the brake the idle speed does slow down, but feels like the idle is forced to slow down. The idle speed is about 150 rpm higher than it should be at "idle".
Could be a vac leak, or a dirty throttle body, or a faulty idle air control valve. The computer controls idle speed by regulating the amount of air into the intake. Could also be something pulling on the throttle cable such as the cruise control.
