2005 Acura MDX Questions & Answers
ACURA MDX Wet Floors
There are three places that water can be coming from. The least likely is from underneath, unless you've been driving through deep water (ask the kids about that if they get to use the car). ;-) The other places are from a plugged sunroof drain - just open the sunroof, and carefully pour a quart of water into the channel in the front and see if it finds its way through the drain holes at the front corners, and out the bottom of the car (it takes just seconds to make the trip). The third possibility is a gap in the gasket or sealant around the windshield (the water will run down inside the windshield pillar, and find its way to your carpet). The only option there is to have the windshield replaced (or at least removed and reinstalled - if you can find someone who'll do that). There's some chance that there's a rust hole under the gasket, too, particularly if the windshield was replaced previously by a ham-fisted tech who scratched up the paint when replacing a windshield.

My speedometer isn't working in my Acura mdx 2005 and it won't shift outta first gear ?!
the speedometer is more then likely due to a fauly speed sensor on the transmission, presuming your check engine light is on, try resetting ecu by removing battery cables for 5 mins, then plugging them back on battery, ensure you have radio code before doing so to avoid locking the radio if it is still the stock radio, if problem is not resolved check engine codes for possible fault shift solenoids, also ensure there is enough transmission fluid, to check turn the car on let run for 10-15 mins to warm up oil, block the wheels and place transmission in neutral and verify correct level of oil, if no codes present and oil at right level, suspect a faulty torque converter in the transmission.
My 2005 Acura MDX has a severed thin purple wire
Need to know Exactly where the wire is located. Pictures would be of help and if possible where the wire is going to on each end (would be helpful) also, is the car AWD or FWD? engine size? turbo?
Code p0158
Code sets when sensor return voltage stays high for abnormal period of time. It could be the heater in the O2 sensor or if the car has high mileage, the catalytic converter. Check sensor return voltage running vehicle at about 2,000 RPM for 3-5 minutes. If voltage is comparable to front sensors on same side there is a catalytic convertor inefficiency because the sensors is well warmed by then. If it is much lower than the front one, the heater in the sensor is bad.
Code p0420 acura m'dx
1996-newer (OBD-II) vehicles use oxygen sensors and a catalytic converter to reduce emissions. There is one
O2 (oxygen) sensor in front of the catalytic converter (called upstream), and one behind it (downstream). When the engine is warmed up and running normally the upstream oxygen sensor reading fluctuates and the downstream one is fairly steady. In the case where both readings are fairly steady, a P0420 check engine light code is set.
Possible Causes:
Oxygen (O2) sensor not working correctly
Damaged or leaking exhuast (pipe, manifold, catalytic converter)
Damaged catalytic converter
Diagnostic Help:
To diagnose a P0420 trouble code we begin by checking for exhaust leaks under the vehicle. Then use an oscilliscope to check the waveforms of both upstream and downstream O2 sensors. The front reading should vary, the rear should be steady. Replace as necessary. Check the rear Heated O2 Sensor. Check the catalytic converter, replace if necessary. If necessary, check for wiring and component concerns. See our article
