no its not the fuel pump, filter maybe... cant see why though.

Number one cylinder on a 3.8 V6 is the front left (passenger side) next to radiator as you are standing in front of the car.

No that is not going to happen.

This is likely a problem with the Mass Airflow sensor, it is a sensor that reads the amount of air going into the engine, when it fails it causes severs hesitation and power loss. Contact a local parts store or your GM dealer for a rebuilt one, the part is about $150.00. It is locate in the air intake hose to the engine.

Have you driven down any dirt roads lately? Belts will sound like that when you have sand stuck in the grooves. It will make a ticking noise when the ribbed part of the belt rides over the pulleys. Usually the sound will jump around.

i would either check your spark plugs and spark plug wire for a bad connection

Yep need to know weather it is drum brakes or disc brakes.
