I would think your battery could be dead. try jumpstarting from a jumper box or another vehicle or better yet put battery on charger for a few hours.
Also check both + and - connections and be sure they are not corroded and are getting good contact. If after this you still get only clicking sound I would think that starter needs replacing.

Is it just the headlights or is it all the exterior lights? Parking lights too. Here is the wiring diagram for auto lamps if that is what you have. This can point you in the right direction if you know your way around a diagram. Also, here is a trouble shooting guide to rule out your light switch itself, if you know how to use a multimeter. I hope this helps you. Always be careful when testing on a car. It is only twelve Volts but can really pack a punch and things fry if you don't do it right. When testing the switch, remove it from the vehicle.

Remove the stereo with the special tools for ford radios. Remove the cup holder/ash tray. There is two screws in each of the two openings. Remove all four screws and bezel will snap out.

It is in the passenger-side rear, where the jack is kept. Take off the cover to expose the scissor jack. This button is below the jack. (BTW, unless you've been in a crash, this is probably not your problem. I've been there, tried this, I know. )
