First Edd does you're escort have air conditioning, if it does you will have to find a shop that will discharge the a/c system for you. Plus I would recommend getting a manual first, Fords are known for having to pull dashes loose which can be a challenging job, For some a couple of days, for experienced technicians several hours. So please read what you will need to do to access the core before you start, and have plenty of patience and a good set of quarter drive sockets and extensions. The heater core is under the dash in the center or right of center, look outside the firewall where the hoses enter will give you a good idea. If you don't have A/C it will be easier. Also if you have to deal with moving the dash very much do so in a warm garage not out in the cold or you may have some cracks in the plastic of the dash that you hadn't before. Follow the steps outlined and use some sort of lubricant to install your heater hoses, and new core can be damaged pushing on hoses, and if you use screw type clamps don't overtighten and then check them again in a few days and retighten as necessary.

Start with the brake pedal; is the rubber pad all worn out around the edges? Is the carpet in the drivers side of the car really worn, with holes here and there? What condition is the driver's seat and seatbelt in? Frayed and worn? All these little things will tell the actual mileage on a vehicle, without relying on the odometer.
